Re: Prostration support? (mat, carpeting, hand/knee/ support, etc)

One way I was taught was to use a sleeping bag mat. One of those self inflating ones.

Re: Lucky colour in Tibetan astrology

Jhampa Kelsang was the astrologer who told me the bit about the stone directly, years ago. I tried to ask him some more questions about it but he didn’t seem game to discuss. I asked the an astrologer from Men Tsee Khang about it and they shrugged and said they didn’t know. An Amchi friend said they...

Re: Lucky colour in Tibetan astrology

Its a guess.I’ve also heard mention of a lucky stone, which may or may not be related to the lucky color, which may or may not be connected to the Mewa (but not the Mewa color). In the way that other things are attached to the Mewa, like deity, previous life, etc. I’ve been trying to figure this bit...

Re: Shopping in Europe

Pity, but completely understandable. A real shame. There are Dharma shops, and then there are Dharma shops where people have both the means and the eye to find really beautiful things. The latter are sadly rarer to encounter. I hope they have a wonderful retirement! Thanks for answering. I’ve ordere...

Sadly, not an answer to your question, but I was wondering if anyone knew why Garuda Trading shut down shop. It seemed a bit abrupt.

I would second the suggestion for Vasundhara. Very much associated with abundant crops.

Hazel wrote: Thu Aug 12, 2021 12:38 am What is meant by position here?
In short, there always need to be an Indra, so when the current deva dies, a new Indra is born. This is my understanding, so I’m happy to be corrected if this isn’t accurate.

Re: Achi Chokyi Drolma Yidam

I can’t point to any scripture, but Kaung is right, Achi Drolma is consistently regarded as a fully awakened Buddha in every sadhana I’ve ever seen translated. I have also heard that the Kamtsang regard her as worldly, but also I’ve only seen her mentioned briefly during the big long serkyem offerin...

Re: The Köncho Chidu text

Thrangu Gompa in British Columbia has this text in a trilingual pecha format. I’m almost positive that the Lung that Abao Lama gave was for that text. It’s pretty lengthy. Just email them and they can arrange shipping.

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Yangzab Empowerment Soon

Malcolm, That’s interesting about Karma Chagme. Is that the source of the initiations used in the Kamtsang tradition here? I’ve always been familiar with the empowerments being individual short initiations for peaceful guru, long life guru, guru drakpo and simhamukha. I had no idea there was a full ...

Re: Traditonal title for a novice nun?

I’ve tried to be mindful of this since HH Karmapa made this suggestion some years ago. “Ani la” still comes out somewhat reflexively, so I’ve just made a habit of asking (the very few) nuns I know personally what they would prefer to be called, or if they had any objections to any of the options. Ac...

Re: Prayer or a Polemic on Guns

Without diminishing the text in any way, it’s more or less on par with the level of intensity (perhaps hyperbole) of most buddhist texts proscribing things.
I think it’s an eminently valuable teaching though.

Re: Misunderstanding vows

Hazel, You may be familiar with the story of Atisha relating how he was able to manage his various sets of vows, and how often he found himself breaking his Bodhisattva vows. My point being, is that it’s natural to break these, and the answer is purification practice. Someone else correct me if I’m ...
