Re: What does "bump" mean in a reply?

Yes, that's an interesting point. And I was raised old school Roman Catholic, so when I started attending sangha events many years later, I felt right at home with all the bells and candles and incense. I sometimes joke I had previously been in the right pew but the wrong church.

Re: What does "bump" mean in a reply?

My handle came from a wall poster similar to this one that a friend had in college in the 70's. I had no clue how appropriate it would be later. https://i3.cpcache.com/merchandise/18134217/53_750x750_Front_Color-NA.jpg?AttributeValue=NA&c=False&OrientationNo=1&region={%22name%22:...

Re: What does "bump" mean in a reply?

"Bump" is usually applied to a post that the poster would like to have some/additional response. It just moves that post to the beginning of the thread. It will then hopefully be seen and responded to more quickly.

I used to watch some pro cycling (bicycle and motorcycle), and quite a bit of auto racing, but none now. Got rid of the TV

Re: Question about Siddhis/Research/Spreading the Dharma

... If I met a person who could walk through walls, I'd sure as hell pay close attention to their knowledge of the universe. Fine, but that's you. Plenty of others would just want to know how to do it themselves, preferably without studying with a dharma teacher for 30 or 40 years. Who's to say you...

Re: tombstones

Perhaps this thread could serve that purpose?

Some people might just want to leave a remembrance rather than a formal request for prayers from a group. I think there was something like that here at one time, it had candle emoji's maybe?, but I can't remember where it was.

Re: Academic papers discussing TMC and Ayurveda

Just to add a quick but important caveat for those pursuing alternative medicines - please be sure to check the sources of whatever substance(s) you apply or ingest. The word "natural" as applied to a description has no legal definition in the US, so it is incumbent on the buyer to their h...

Re: Prayers for Geshe missing in Washington State

Thanks for the update. I traveled through that area via motorcycle years ago, it's a mountainous, very heavily wooded and isolated section of Idaho, but many teachers have experience living in those conditions. Making aspirations for Rinpoche's safe return.

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

... This is very interesting. My family line is not of German origin (although I do have a late Bavarian uncle) although I do live in what is considered the New York Dutch area, which is loosely adjacent to the Greater Pennsylvania Dutch area. The area was settled by and comprised of Holland Dutch ...

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

Thanks for this, very interesting. My grandparents were of Irish descent, they lived and farmed in southeastern Pennsylvania (Chester County) for many years, there were some Amish nearby. Later I lived in southern Chester County, right on the Lancaster County border, and we had Amish farms all aroun...

Something about people who work with land and growing makes a person easy to like. Possibly true if you're referring to the hippie-type back-to-the-land save-the-planet folks. Perhaps not quite so true with corporate/factory farmers or some other less-enlightened types. There are farmers in some ru...
