Re: Masonry: whats the purpose? Whats the buddhist view?
I'm referring to individuals of no particular sect of Buddhism who just so happen to believe in God and the Four Noble Truths.Jikan wrote:which ones?Mojo wrote:Some Buddhists also believe in God.

Re: Masonry: whats the purpose? Whats the buddhist view?
I think one has to proclaim a belief in a higher power to get in so I'm guessing this probably excludes most buddhists. As far as to what goes on? The only people who really know are the ones in the organization. Anyone one the outside can speculate but without hidden surveillance to confirm what so...

Re: Website coloration
I browse pretty much just from my Android device. Funny thing is, this morning the colors over at Dhamma Wheel, which I thought were fine before, are now blue and white for me. This site has remained the same.

Website coloration
I find it very difficult to look at the yellow text of Dharma Wheel on top of the yellow background. I think perhaps changing the lettering to red would make it easier too look at while preserving the current theme.

Thank you. Incidentally, I had been using the instructions of Bhante G which can be found http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma4/mpe9.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (along with his entire book, "Mindfulness in Plain English." It is about Vipassana style meditati...

Re: Tonglen?
I am pretty certain anyone can practice Tonglen - although it would perhaps be better to seek someones opinion who knows more about it. However have you ever looked at Metta Bhavana meditation? it is practiced in the Theravadin tradition and although I practice Tibetan buddhism mainly I also do thi...

Tonglen?
Hi. I just came across the concept of Tonglen on wikipedia while trying to find an alternative to the kind that is taught from the Insight Meditation group. It sounds like a nice practice and am wondering if one could learn it without a guru. I'm completely ignorant to Tibetan Buddhism, but have rea...

Re: Swaying in meditation
There have been a few times while following my breath where I had actually been fairly consistent at staying with my breath and in the tranquility of it, noticed the very strong sensation of swaying, though I'm guessing if it is anything beyong sensation, that it wouldn't be noticed by casual observ...

Re: Finding a teacher when you dislike interaction
My knowlege of Dzogchen as well as pretty much all of Tibetan Buddhism is completely superficial and probably wrong. For example, I'm under the impression that Dzogchen is just the evolution of Zen in Tibet and that all forms of Vajriana practice require devotion to guru, as tantric practices can be...

Re: Finding a teacher when you dislike interaction
Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have no intent of diving into complicated sutras about tantra and such. I'm solely focused on the eightfold path and mindfulness meditation. I will keep reading and see if any particular lineage appeals to me enough that I will go look for a teacher. :na...

In other words, Avalokiteshvara clears away some of the obscurations inhibiting your buddha nature. Thanks. Up until I read the two posts that I quoted, I hadn't even really thought about this. In fact, I have pretty much looked at these Bodhisatvas as mythology adopted from Hinduism and adapted to...

Re: Finding a teacher when you dislike interaction
At ZFI I was adviced to keep looking for a teacher, meditate for stillness only and be careful about reading without the guidance of a teacher. This is a nbit demoralising for me. What do I do then? How do I keep my motivation for meditation without reading? ZFI is targeted specifically toward Zen,...

Re: Are sutra's to be taken literaly?
Peace. I have read in the past sutra ot Avalokitesvara bodhisatva mahasatva. I got it from the temple in Melbourne city. And it preaty much talks about miracles that would happen if you had faith and called upon this bodhisatva. Now are those miracles to be taken literally or metaforicaly? Thanks W...

Re: I Believe in Karma and its Effects - Poll
I think I have very western views on karma, you know, that it is like some form of divine justice. And I had thought that there were plenty of non-karmic reasons for suffering. So I really can't debate or even understand a lot of what is being said here. It seems that one has to believe in reincarn...
