Re: What Buddhist Books Did You Order, or are Reading?
"A New Course In Reading Pali" just arrived so I'm going to slowly work my way through that while going back over the stuff I don't understand from my various other books.

Oh I'm not ready for the dog yet. I'm having lots of problems focusing and my instruction so far is completely based on breathing. Our dog is a basset hound, he makes this constant whining noise that's common with bassets, and can drive me bonkers on the best of days. Actually the practice is helpin...

Re: Buddhism on God
the Great God is the highest being. But even the Great God is subject to coming-to-be and ceasing-to-be.' -- Anguttara-Nikaya X 29 Make no mistake the Buddha and Buddhism rejects god. There were individuals who believed Brahma created the universe, but the Buddha very clearly rejected this. While I...

Re: What is the difference between a Christian and a Buddhist?
I have to say, that as an agnostic, I would not categorize myself as "sitting on a fence". It's not that I'm confused, or haven't made up my mind, it's that as an agnostic I believe that I have no proof, for or against an existence of a deity, and more importantly that I believe the questi...

Cat Meditation
I've been taking a secular mindfulness meditation course, and it has been incredibly helpful so far, if frustrating. I'm still quite new at it, so I drift off probably every two breaths or so, but I'll keep working at it. It's been harder at home, so I purchased a guided meditation cd and book (Quie...

Re: Rebirth of whom?
I'm completely ridiculously new at this, but this is how I've interpreted it. If you've ever played pool/billiards, when you hit one ball with another ball, the second ball moves forward, propelled by the energy of the first ball. Neither ball is the other one, both balls are completely separate in ...
