Euthanasia
What's the Buddhist view on Euthasia. I was reading a article about a man in Britain who was effectively trapped in his body and the British legal system would not allow a doctor to assist him dying. Does Buddhism have a view on this?

Re: Taking Refuge
Taking formal refuge would be great. It sounds like a fantastic idea. Do you want to practice tantric or sutric? Kevin Once my base practices are established I would like to go tantric, but I would happily spend a number of years in Shamata practice to get there. I'm in no rush. I really want to st...

Taking Refuge
Hey All, I'm at the stage where I want to formally take refuge. I have been lurking around Buddhism for nearly 30 odd years and think it's about time to formally commit. As I get older the teachings seem more accurate and I really am looking for a community to help me stay on the path. I don't have ...

Re: Where to start and an ethical dilema?
I went to experience undifferentiated reality. This will require some steady meditation. If you take a deep breath, and set aside the thoughts of the day, undifferentiated reality is right there waiting. It is the flow of sensations, the frame of mind, whether good, bad or indifferent. It can be pa...

Re: What makes one a Mahayanist?
Taking the vow won't automatically turn me into a Bodhisattva will it!?Son of Buddha wrote:take the Bodhisattva vows and walk the Bodhisattva path.
I was just asking do Bodhisattvas have suffering?

Re: What makes one a Mahayanist?
Do Bodhisattvas have suffering? MY main practice background is Theravada though I'm moving into Mahayana and hopefully Vajrayana one day.

Are empowerments essential?
Do you need empowerments to use visualisations. I have read somewhere that you can do visualisations of certain dieties that are safe without empowerments. Could someone more knowledgable please assist.

Whether current technical civilisation will continue is one of the great questions of the age.

Re: Compassion and pity?
On some levels I'm a very empathetic person. It always pained me to see insects and the like suffer, but I was deeply conflicted by this. I thought the best response was to toughen myself up and at times acted in a cruel fashion. I would say, that the best response would be to be emphatic and paine...

Compassion and pity?
On some levels I'm a very empathetic person. It always pained me to see insects and the like suffer, but I was deeply conflicted by this. I thought the best response was to toughen myself up and at times acted in a cruel fashion. How does one demonstrate compassion without the pity getting you down ...

Best meditation for my circumstance? Maybe someone can help?
Deal All, Here is my circumstance. I'm going through a third divorce to a woman I loved very much. She left me as I have an autoimmune condition which causes me chronic pain, depression, and makes me look pretty ugly as well. I am a lot of pain and life looks pretty bleak most of the time. My father...

Re: What makes one a Mahayanist?
Doing a bit of research in the evening, after my missive from this morning, and I found this, from one of my favorite Teachers: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/bodhi/arahantsbodhisattvas.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Like all great poets and writers, he pu...

Re: Sequential Meditation Forms
Counting the breath is helpful for establishing mindfulness. After mindfulness is sufficiently developed, there's no need to continue with counting, and one can then attend to the breath silently. And there are also other useful object-supports for developing mental calm and pliancy, such as mainta...

Sequential Meditation Forms
G'day all, I'm interested in reestablishing my meditation practice after many years. What I really want is to build stability, then insight, then possibly I might enter into some tantric practices if I find the right teacher. What is the most stabilising (calming, settling) form of meditation. Breat...

Where to start and an ethical dilema?
Hey All, Like me make a candid confession in my introduction. I am what you might call a spiritual seeker and have passed through pretty much every religious/spiritual tradition that has existed, though while remaining deeply sceptical of the forms of these traditions. My first interest was in Zen a...
