The Drukpa Center in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY, NY?
Has anyone here visited the Drukpa Center in Jackson Heights, NY? I am curious because it is not listed on the official USA Drukpa website, though the site may be outdated. Is it a separate lineage from Gyalwang Drukpa's?

Mantra websites
I have not been on this forum for a number of years so I apologize in advance if this topic has been extensively covered. Does anyone know of any authentic websites which collects mantras of Devas and Bodhisattvas? It is best if they are translations from Pali or Sanskrit into Roman alphabet (Englis...

Best places for Buddhist statues or lithographs in New York City?
I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered in other posts. I have not been back on this board for about 3 years already. I still live in New York City, and I was wondering what was the best place to obtain statues, lithographs, posters, or other visual representation of Devas and Bodhisat...

Bodhisattva Veneration and Kamakura Era Japanese Buddhist Branches
A few years back, I wrote of how I was surprised when I visited the New York Buddhist Church, a member temple of Josho Shinshu Nishi Honganji, and there was no statue of Bodhisattva Kannon. Coming from a Chinese Buddhist background, I thought all Buddhist temples, let alone Chinese and Japanese ones...

in re: community outreach quantitative data
Hello again folks. I am still working on my Masters in Public Administration degree. As such, I frequently need to discuss case studies with my various classes. I was thinking that perhaps I do some of my scholastic work on the two larger Mahayana Buddhist community outreach organizations in the wor...

Not to revive a dead thread, but I wonder if Ven Indrjala, Jikan, Astus, and others have any knowledge on this subject.

Free Book Services
Similar to Christian free Bible services, it seems the Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai (BDK), which prints Numata Editions sends copies of their Shin Buddhism oriented book, The Teaching of Buddha for only the cost of shipping. See here: https://www.bdkamerica.org/default.aspx?MPID=53 Basically, although it is ...

Re: Jodo Shinshu films, documentaries ... vids?
Shin Buddhism being practiced by 20% of all Japanese, is actually one of the top 5 largest schools of Buddhism in the world as I surmise (look it up on WikiPedia). For some reason I have come to think that in the English speaking world there is a very good representation of Jodo Shinshu (at least be...

Re: What is the Largest Buddhist Sect on Earth Today?
Approximating from the data at WikiPedia, I would guestimate the following: 1) Chinese Mahayana (the Pureland/ Chan mix sanctioned by the PRC gvt) 2) Mahanikaya Order (Thailand) 3) Vietnamese Pureland Buddhism 4) Jodo Shinshu (Japan) 5) Thudhamma Nikaya (Myanmar) I separate Chinese and Vietnamese Pu...

Re: What is the Largest Buddhist Sect on Earth Today?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_by_country Some interesting findings on wiki. I agree in the English speaking world there are more Theravadans and Tibetan Vajrayanists than Mahayana Buddhists. Although the Pew is said to be biased, it is one of the only agencies collecting data: http://www.pew...

Re: Question on Pureland Buddhism and Japanese pureland sect
Post-52 I too, being Chinese, come from a Chinese Pure Land background. When I visited the New York Buddhist Church, a temple of Jodo Shinshu NIshi Hoganji, I was treated courteously. When I asked about the absent Kanzeon Bozatsu (Guan Yin Pusa), I had some blank looks from some of the Church attend...

Honmon Hokke Shu (本門法華宗)?
Anyone can tell me about Honmon Hokke Shu? The school was said to be the only traditional Nichiren school to officially protest World War II (with SGI being a notable post-Meiji school that protested).

PorkChop, what is the Manbu Oneri of the Yuzu Nembutsu sect? Is it a dance or some sort of invocation ritual?
I hear Jishu has dances.
