Re: Validity of recorded empowerments

I'm trying to establish the boundaries of this argument. In a dialectical sense, I consider "recorded sound" in this instance to be any sound not directly connected with the body and consciousness of the empowering lama. Basically sound coming out of his or her own ritual implements or fro...

Re: Validity of recorded empowerments

I find this whole thread a little disturbing. There are many very highly qualified masters, with genuine realization, who offer a variety of teachings across a wide range of topics (lam rim, dialectics, empowerments, tantric grounds & paths, kyerim and dzogrim instructions, pointing-out and pith...

Re: Validity of recorded empowerments

I find this question of whether empowerments and transmissions are valid by recording, phone, or webcast to be an interesting on. This was discussed at the 2010 International Conference on Tibetan Buddhism at Emory University. I personally appreciate and value both sides of this argument, as I have ...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

All good points. And valid.

I consider it a sangha, and frame my experience as if it were a sangha.

As such someone has acted inappropriately and/or I myself have committed some ethical impropriety.

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

The logical conclusion of that is that there are then congregations of Buddhists that are sangha and some that are not. There are then groups of Buddhists that have the reciprocal relationships outlined by the pratimoksha, and the corrsponding ethcial commitments-- and some not. I simply don't accep...

Re: Native American appreciation thread

I've always been deeply impressed and moved by the Paiute shaman Wovoka. On 1 January 1889 he had a vision which became the basis of the ghost dance tradition. His prophecy as told by a Cheyene who met Wovoka: When you get home you must make a dance to continue five days. Dance four successive night...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

There are reasons I mentioned GuerillaMail and Tor. Research done. Dead end-- nothing here for anyone.

My comments as to how to make this a positive still stand.
It's clearly not my place to start that conversation.
I may not be shut up by the admins and mods-- but by somebody here.

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

I am still confused...how does someone send a fraudulent message purporting to come from a mod on this forum via another site ? It's simple. You figure out somebody's identity off the forum (I explained how that happened above). Then you go to GuerillaMail, claim to be a forum member, and e...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

There are actually many ways of looking at this recent harassment issue. One is that it is all just karma. Another is from the level of the technicalities of what the ToS are for different products (DW, GuerillaMail) and possible legalities. Yet another is the extent to which this is a sangha as opp...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

Thank you Khedrup. I try to frame these things in a larger picture that looks outward if possible. It really shows how umportant and necessary these conversations are. I hope they continue. That's more important than the annoyance and harm of one person. Then again, if ive been flamed others certain...

JKhedrup wrote:My advice to people: don't let whoever this bully is win. But maintain a private identity as a safety precaution. Use a unique nickname you don't use elsewhere.
What he said. My mistake.

Maybe gut the thread back to Jamyang Tashi's original theme, and start afresh.

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

None of this makes any sense in a sangha. It is a really shitty experience you went through and I am sorry All of us who open ourselves online are vulnerable to this kind of nonesense. I am reevaluating my openness about my identity in light of this. My opinions on several spiritual issues alone hav...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

It's all good Cone. It's explained in a later post. -U Just FYI due to the direction the conversation seems to be heading, the ToS states: No Disclosure of Internal Private Messages/Off-Site Emails or Any Type of Private Correspondence Without Prior Consent from the Sender Not that it's happened, ju...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

This story seems appropriate as it is metaphoric of larger things while being immediately relevant. Everything really comes down to experience and our ability to parse and contextualize our experience . That is a theme at the center of Buddhist psychology. Our world is made from our karmic formation...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

My apologies for derailing this thread. I'm basically treading water here with very nasty responses to the personal narratives I've shared, and trying to respond to in-thread comments that reflect some of that nastiness. In a nutshell, there are strong objections to my aggressively pushing a politic...

Re: Personal Experiences of Discrimination

The reason there's any meta-discussion is because people are having their experienced criticized. I know I've gotten nothing but a litany of grief for the narratives I've shared. And I didn't couch them in any political structure whatsoever. -U I hoped we could put all agendas aside and just listen ...

Ven. J Khedrup... Not in this thread, but others, and in PM. I just reviewed the entire thread from page one, paying attention to every post I made.
