Re: Pronounciation
In addition to what Grigoris said, the stress is on the ro... vy-RO-chuh-nuh. Sanskrit is generally, but not always, stressed on the 2nd to last syllable... PrajApati, YogAnanda, VivekAnanda, etc.

Re: Who might these be?
Shakyamuni statue or picture can be depicted in various ways and they are related to major events of his life. With the earth touching mudra there should be a begging bowl (i.e. related with the event). Aksobhya bronze statue, which is in this book , is matching. Or you can check out "The Icon...

Re: Who might these be?
Very cool. Thanks guys... I believe the left is indeed Amoghasiddhi. The right might be Ratnasambhava. You are correct about the rupa on the left. Although he shouldn't really be holding a begging bowl. The one on the right is either Shakyamuni (although he would normally be holding a beggin...

Who might these be?
These are 2 small bronze and brass statues I have. I'm not exactly sure who they are. I thought the left one might be Amogasiddhi and the right a general depiction of seated Gautama Buddha.Or they both are a general sitting Buddha. Thoughts?

Re: Sanskrit Daimoku
if I wanted to use this formula for more buddhas / bodhisattvas I would have to learn the basics of Sanskrit grammar. Learning to inflect their names wouldn’t be terribly difficult. It’s just a matter of making a cheat sheet. Names and other nouns, and pronouns are actually pretty easy. If I’m not ...

1: In 'āya', the letter a with the line over it is to represent emphasis, correct? Is it necessary? So would this work, I want to say a reverence phrase to Akṣhobhya Buddha; namo akṣhobhāya buddhāya, or namo akṣhobhaya buddhaya? No, the ā represents long a, as in father. Short a is like about. Each...

How splendid. Now I get to learn too. But this inflection for agreement across all terms is optional, yes? ... Yes, of course. I meant to point out that the rules of grammar are often dispensed with for devotional practice. Even among Hindus, who are usually sticklers for reciting mantras and sloka...

Yeah I just looked at a the standard Tibetic dedication at at the opening of the LS and saw namaḥ sarvabuddhabodhisattvebhyaḥ, which made me second guess myself. I think I was confusing the nama with the nāma infix you find in constructions like Ākāśagarbhanāmamahāyānasūtra. Yep, that too. sarva .....

namasaddharmapuṇḍarīkasūtrāya The sandhi might dictate an initial geminated "s," I'm not actually sure of that. The sandhi for visarga (ḥ as in namaḥ) is namaḥ saddharma... No change in the visarga before a sibilant. Consider oṃ namaḥ śivāya . Yeah I just looked at a the standard Tibetic ...

I am pretty sure all the nouns and adjectives have to be in the same case. Checked... Yes, all in the dative. Consider the Shivopasana (Shiva's epithets)... Namaste astu bhagavan vishveshvarāya mahādevāya tryambakāya tripurantakāya trikagnikalāya kalagnirudrāya nilakanthāya mrutyunjayāya sarveshvar...

My other concern is that ive seen sutra and sutraM. Sūtra is a masc. a-stem (nom. sing. sutraḥ), so the final <m> is the accusative, the direct object of a verb... sūtram aham namami or sūtram namamyaham (or any word order): "I revere [the] sūtra" (ok, not the best example of a sentence :...

Re: Question for those who carry a mala in daily life
I put it in one of those japa bead bags cause I don't think people are supposed to even see my mala(that's my own preference). I was told by a Hindu pujari (priest) to cover the mala when doing japa. No one is supposed to see it. He said by others seeing it, it renders the japa round invalid. Thoug...

Interesting. According to wikipedia it says Namo' mitabhaya, but there doesn't seem to be much evidence behind that. ... If so Namo'mitabhaya could be the correct version, but I'm still not so sure. It is correct. Namah + a(mitabha) = Namo'mitabh + āya, the dative case (to/for) = Reverence/obeisanc...

Re: How do you experience PL?
How do you know Amitabha (or any other Buddha) and his Pure Land (or any other PL) are real? I think it's a state of mind, and within us. I think it's not unlike Jesus saying the kingdom of God is within, or Hindu jivanmukti. I don't think you have to die and go anywhere to experience the Pure Land...

Nice! I think I should recite this when offering at my shrine, as well as other times, of course. If this doesn't engender mindfulness, I don't think anything will.
