I know metal isn't all too big in Buddhism... But these guys have evolved into a very progressive melodic band. Can't get enough of their new album.

Re: Virasana an ok alternate?
Good to know. It appears I am looking in the wrong areas trying to find other meditation methods/postures online.

Virasana an ok alternate?
Is the Virasana (hero pose) an ok alternate for meditation? I feel as though I may have strained my LCL on my right knee a little being a little ambitious in yoga. It's not awful, I can sit in a normal cross-legged position, but it still puts a little bit of pressure on the outside of my knee. I'd l...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
It's a blessing to have found this site. I will definitely inquire about attending Ponlop Rinpoche's teaching this Spring at NBCT. I imagine they have quite the following, I hope they have enough room for newcomers. I'm also very interested in Yantra Yoga and have found that there are places in MA a...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
Both of those books sound very interesting, especially Magic Dance.
I've also been looking into Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and I must say, I am really looking forward to getting into his teachings.

Re: Greetings! Meditation position advice?
I found this posting on another forum recently, http://zenmontpellier.voila.net/eng/lotus/lotuseng.html the 'sage posture', Figure 14, is relatively easy to maintain. That link is great! Thank you. Also my last post was supposed to read "double pigeon" not "double crow", haha. Y...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
Just wanted to voice my appreciation for all the input in this thread again. I am currently finishing the book (started before joining Dharma Wheel) Awakening the Buddha Within: Tibetan Wisdom for the Western World by Lama Surya Das. It's a very accessible book for a beginner. As soon as I finish th...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
I don't mean to come off as naive. I truly appreciate all the information. Out of curiosity, is this a very common thing for people to create centers and claim to be more than what they are, and in doing so, teaching their own method? I will definitely contact Patrick at Vajra Echoes and see where i...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
Here's a link to the Dzogchen Center in New Haven... I'm just curious where any doubt may be coming from? If you have the time, can you browse the site for me and tell me if there is anything awry that catches your eye? I'd really love to check out some of the places mentioned in this thread as ther...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
Wow, thanks. I live in South Windsor, Bloomfield isn't far at all. Much closer than New Haven, CT. Thanks! Do you attend? I haven't attended yet, but plan to do so. I live in Hartford, just discovered the center after reading "Rebel Buddha" and doing an online search for centers affiliate...

Re: Some good literature for an introduction to Dzogchen?
I'm a little lost now... I have no interest in going back to the Odiyana Center in Glastonbury, CT which is part of the New Kadampa Tradition. The center I plan on attending in the near future is The Center for Dzogchen Studies in New Haven, CT. I've done my research on the NKT, not my cup of tea. ...

Various ways of writing "Om mani padme hum"?
I'm not really sure how tattoos are viewed in traditional Buddhism, but prior to taking my practice seriously I covered myself in ink. I would like to have this mantra tattooed on my body to signify this new chapter in my life going forward. I'd like to know if it is still proper for this mantra to ...

Re: Greetings! Meditation position advice?
Good thread, and something I was interested in myself. As you can see form my avatar I am somewhat knowledgable of the proper way to meditate sitting up. However due to some knee injuries through my years in rough sports it is very hard for me to get in the bodhisattva posture. I did "double cr...
