Re: What is supposed to be kept secret? What isn't?

What is meant as "secret" shouldn't be difficult to discern. One is instructed that others simply should not know if you are a practitioner. Discussion is limited to teacher-student or between Vajra Brothers and Sisters. If you are uncertain, you don't discuss and you don't reveal. Additio...

Re: Logical refutations of a permanent self

Does anyone know of logical refutations of a permanent and unchanging self? I know that there are many in the writings of Mahayana and mainly Madhyamaka writers like Aryadeva and Candrakirti. Does anyone know of good ones to use in debate against people proposing an eternal self? I know some, like ...

Yes, have been told this is an approximation and not precise location. You have to find/locate it for yourself. I would
consult your teacher regarding this.

Re: Tibetan Buddhist Center around Toronto

Lama Yeshe Ling seems wonderful. Have not attended in person, but actively participate at a distance in other ways. Geshe Sonam and Ven. Khedrup are great. Shaun I will second this, from personal experience as someone living in the GTA. The preliminaries are not as emphasized in the Gelug tradition...

Re: The Disapearance of Pennsylvania Dutch in America

Very interesting. Thank you for posting. My family are Pennsylvania Germans from the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis region who came to the colonies in 1701. As far as I know our language was lost with my Great Grandparents on my Father's side of the family. Hi Zerwe, this is really interesting. Do you know ...

Re: Tergar / FPMT

The FPMT Discovering Buddhism program is wonderful and you get out of it what effort you put into it. Some modules are a little more involved than others. There are suggested/required brief retreats to integrate what has been learned. Additionally, there is module 14 "Integration practices"...

Re: Is there specific meat eating taboo in HYT?

Below is a excerpt from a public teaching that Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave during an informal retreat setting to both initiates and non. He has addressed this a number of times. Yes, lineages may differ, but what is key here is that the Tantras themselves are referenced as the source. Light of the Path ...

Re: Is there specific meat eating taboos in HYT?

This sounds a lot like something a certain fake lineage would say. Are you able to link to the source? The above mentioned list was a sort of compilation from various Mainland and Taiwanese forums and blogs. Fake lineages? Perhaps. Part of it was deduction, because the google translate not always a...

Re: Initiation wrist cords

The cords are related to binding channels or blessing the channels. Generally in the preparatory rituals of a Wang chen. After the empowerment the cord is not needed, just like the blindfold, Kusha grass, etc. There are some specific protection cords that Lamas pass out during the Tha Gun (sp?) whe...

Re: Initiation wrist cords

You are supposed to wear them continuously. Although, some people take them on and off from time to time.
Also, unless the Lama specifically states otherwise, they can be worn around the neck if the wrist presents a problem.

Re: More Tibetan pronunciation

A little late to the conversation, but yes finding a native speaker in Central (Lhasa) dialect would be invaluable. Additionally, there are presentations of how each row (and isolated each column) demonstrates guttural, palatal, dental, and labial sounds. The exceptions (outliers) are retroflex and ...
