Thank You Everyone

Thank you for all the different teachings. Feels like this site's got almost all 84,000--

Got enrolled in a couple new classes and decided that if I spend as much time and energy on them as I do here and on the net I might actually be able to do something beneficial.

Re: My composing dream has been shattered

Have you sought professional help to get over this anhedonia? It's not something you should just accept - it could well be caused by a serious depressive illness. Do you like to hike? Even mowing the lawn (a feeling of accomplishment.) There is Emotions Anonymous where you could talk to people and ...

Re: Why is Tulku system only found in Tibetan Buddhism?

I've never asked a tulku but it was my understanding that Dusum Khyenpa reincarnated to show the importance of meditation.

I think it is also iconic that when he was older I do believe he was a kind gentle man with white hair.

I don't know. When I look out at the vastness of space or try to fathom the stars being born it seems like a kalpa is indeed a long time. But that's just my opinion.

Re: Master Hsuan Hua on garlic, onions, etc.

"Now, with that being said, I have wondered if it is possible for a demon to emanate as a plant." I have heard this as well. Well better no tobacco. Go to gym and workout which looks like what some of the Lamas are doing. But I can only speak for myself and I can't tell my teacher what to...

It is not healthy. Smoking is the number one preventable cause of death in the U.S. Tobacco in all forms causes cancer.

Now, with that being said, I have wondered if it is possible for a demon to emanate as a plant.

Re: Master Hsuan Hua on garlic, onions, etc.

This is from a Nyingma perspective. I have no clue how The 16th Karmapa and Kalu Rinpoche could use tobacco (snuff). Totally does not jive with my views about tobacco. But that does not stop me from admiring both of them and considering them good teachers. Besides the whole three steps, one bow is o...

Re: Buddhism loses all purpose if you don't believe in reinc

Ist it allowed to want rebirth in Sukhavati? Or in body in which you can practice Dharma easily? I feel like I'm not a Milarepa and so will not reach enlightenment in one lifetime. So Sukhavati or a precious human rebirth is what i want. Isn't that common sense? Shambhala but read that takes a lot ...

Re: Bon Children's Home Computer Lab Funding

Funny little computer side--my son Asher prefers LibreOffice to Microsoft Office 2013. Think it's the ribbon instead of traditional menus that he dislikes. I have both installed cause he'll need to know Word and Excel but... He also ran Linux for a long time but he prefers Windows. Is important for ...

Bon Children's Home Computer Lab Funding

The Bön Children's Home in India provides food, clothing, shelter, education and a safe place to grow for approximately 300 refugee children, ages 4 - 18. The BCH gives them a chance to grow to become productive adults. Computers are now an important part of their education. The children are asked t...

Re: Master Hsuan Hua on garlic, onions, etc.

A coworker of mine had cancer so he would eat 2 cloves of garlic and a shot of red wine X times a day. He did that for 2 years and the cancer went into remission so he stopped. He died of the disease a few/some years later.

Seems like common sense would rule.

Re: Eons, Kalpas, whatever...

Why do Buddhist sutras and scholars speak of humans living "eons" ago when humans didn't even exist "eons" ago? If the Buddha truly knew what occurred in the past, then he would know this. How will beings be larger and live to 80,000 years in the future when Maitreya Buddha awak...

The Tshog Dag Foundation for Nyingma Monasteries also has quite a comprehensive list of pujas you can request for people.

Good note to end the night. You have absolutely confused me. Part of me wants to say you are somehow referring to one taste but then-- I like your post. Good. It confuses me. Neutral, (I often spend parts of my life confused.) Hedonism. Bad (unless Drukpa Kunley) Your argument may work for you but i...

I just know that I am a Nyingma-Kagyu practitioner who feels that Pabongka Rinpoche's outline of the Seven Points of Mind Training work better for me.
