Re: Rushen or not

Helpful and clear, thanks. I'm intersted in this too, as my own main practice thes days, part of a big cycle, goes through an extensive generation phase, proceeds to tsalung and the like, and goes on to the instruction class without "divertimg" (if I may put it that way) to the rushens. S...

Dungse Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche Troma Wangchen

Hi folks,

I'll be attending the Dudjom Troma wangchen and bumtsog in Spain next week with Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche.

What practices does the wangchen give you the empowerment for? Is it the chöd feasts or the ngondro and other practices too?

Also, will anyone from here be attending?

Re: Dudra - Collected Topics

I personally liked studying dudra, it's a good way to train your mind for debate and introduce basic topics that will be important later when considering emptiness. Their study has been key in Gelug monasteries in Tibet with Mipham introducing the debate into Nyingma shedras. As for larung gar I don...

Re: place to stay: McLeod Ganj

I stayed in "Pink House" it was nice, clean and did a very nice saffron tea. My friend stayed in "Green Hotel" which is very popular and has nice views. Monasteries have great houses which can also be a good place to go, I'm told the gyume guest house is nice. Dharamshala is an o...

maybe a bit off topic but did you hear him say mickey mouse teachings in public? I read mickey mouse etc being mentioned many times on the old not-updated lama yeshe archive website. I assumed from context that they set a word filter and replaced that one evil spirit name that can only be mentioned...

Re: Sacred substances on airplanes

I have flown from India to the UK via Dubai with Mani pills and Vajrakilaya pills from HHDL, and I know someone who collected lots of scared substances in Nepal to bring back to the UK. If you put them in a labelled bag in the hold you should be okay, if it's not much I really doubt they'll care.

Re: Making sense of Lama Yeshe's Rebirth

How could Lama Yeshe, who's done great work, be reborn as a D-rate film maker? Ösel has had a very difficult life with some traumatic experiences when he was young. He hasn't said much about this but he has openly said how people requested teachings from him at 10 years old and how difficult that w...

Re: The ethics when receiving lung transmission?

One of my teachers has said that as long as you listen attentively you can read along with the text being transmitted. For example when receiving Tsongkhapa's collected works nearly all the monks read along although they didn't really need to read as they were focused on listening to the text.

You choose your the teacher who becomes your guru by giving you empowerment, oral transmission and instructions. Here Padampa Sangye is talking about the importance of guru yoga and guru devotion in the Vajrayana.

Re: Dudjom Rinpoche Reincarnations?

How can I see the Lama Yeshe's Tulku is seemingly tired of Buddhism or monasticism and just wants to pursue his movie making career? This seems to be polar opposite of Lama Yeshe's activities, no? I have been told that there are multiple tulkus of Lama Yeshe, Ösel is only one of these. He also isn'...

Re: Eight Mahayana Precepts

Hi, a question on this: does it matter you take the precepts from a monk or someone who actually observes them? I mean, what if a lay person is better than a monk at keepping them? Would you still want them from the monk? If you take the vows from a preceptor, the requirement is that they have the ...

Re: Killing an animal doesn't break the first precept?

Perhaps you have a source for this, if possible? Like what consists of root and branch downfalls for each precept in your tradition. From this Mandala Article Losing the Vow from the Root The four root vows can be broken from the root in the following ways. The vow is lost from the root and so shou...

Re: Killing an animal doesn't break the first precept?

Maybe I'm confusing the lay precepts for the monastic ones. For a lay person taking the five precepts, killing an animal surely breaks the precept? In the teachings on lay vows I've received it's the same as monastic vows. Killing an animal doesn't break the vow at the root, it is a branch defeat s...

Thanks, I’ll keep an eye out, though at this point it feels like there won’t be enough time/information to be able to plan such a serious trip. If you planned now you'd have time, typically not much more information is given than this for teachings. You can apply for the PAP online now, same as vis...
