With all due respect, fella, I don't give a flying f*&k about what you think does or doesn't add up.

Re: Gems, crystals and semi-precious gemstones in Tibetan Buddhism

I do completely agree with Loppon that baidurya is star sapphire and not lapis. That being said, as someone who worked for 30 years as a Chinese to English translator, it's my experience that, once a wrong translation takes hold in either a profession or the general public, it's extremely difficult...

Re: nagarjuna basics?

Thanks Malcolm. I haven't read Buton's history yet, I'll have to give it a go. As widespread as the legend is, I found it curious that Taranatha's history doesn't mention it.

Re: nagarjuna basics?

So I was hoping for a quick and dirty description of what nagarjuna taught? Nāgārjuna is the first Mahāyāna author. It is recorded that he recovered the Perfection of Wisdom Sūtras from the Nāgā realm, where they had been stashed until time was ripe for their promulgation in India. Where is this hi...

Hi, I just wanted to chime in too and express my gratitude to Malcolm and all the people at Wisdom for everything y'all did to make this very special offering. The lung was an especially moving experience for me. I got my book in the mail this past week. I don't know who is responsible, but I'd love...

Re: The Tantric Age: A comparison of Shaiva and Buddhist Tantra

So, to sum up, yup. Yup. Ditto. Western academia is no friend to Buddhadharma. At the last Tsadra translation conference, Sangye Khandro very firmly put David Germano in his place. It was truly a sight to behold. Is there a video? Or audio or a transcription? I'd love to see that. If not could you ...

In the USA "thirteen states and the District of Columbia have penal statutes that, in at least some circumstances, support the criminal prosecution of clergypersons engaged in sexual misconduct with congregants or parishioners" (http://www.adultsabusedbyclergy.org/statelaws.html) Is anyone...

How is the Taisho canon or the writings of Tan-Luan, Tao-Cho, Shan-Tao, Honen, Shinran a short bibliography of books in English? Re: Is Amida Buddha a real buddha?

And where did the people who wrote the official doctrinal standpoints of East Asian Pure Land get the idea? Likely from Bodhiruci and other missionary translators from the Indian cultural area. Is there a short bibliography of books in English language where one can find the official doctrinal stan...

Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra. Citation please? Not sure what you mean. You want page numbers? Quick start - see Nirvanasutra.net But take note that translation is not the best and the guy who runs the page... Well take with a pinch of salt. Yeah actual quotes would be nice. I read the Yamamoto tr...

I'm looking for discussions on nihilism, especially what mahasiddhas said about it, but it can be any quote from any master, or even from anyone here. Just anything that can be used as a counter for nihilistic views. Thank you :anjali: Thinley Norbu (1931-2011) developed in his writings an extensiv...
