Can Buddhism be Dangerous?

Hello friends, My point here, dont think to much of your"self" and your religion. At least in Buddhism, there is no god no devil and no magic(?). So you can powa or recite forbidden gobldiguck or tuomma or whatever. Buddhism only relates to the reality that surrounds your mind and your min...

Re: Is happiness a product of causes and conditions?

I have a very simple and maybe even naive questions: Is happiness a product of causes and conditions (according to Buddhist thought)? To my own surprise I just realized today that I had automatically assumed that if I just practiced enough at some point lasting happiness would somehow automagically...

good to learn or evaporate

hello buddhist friends, it is said that being human is a great achievement because we can/could make progress particularly well on the path to enlightenment. so question: are we suppose to learn something now? it sure does seem like we should learn something (to be kind, accepting, 8-fold path, gene...

Re: Cherish me as supreme

I would add that selflessness and cherishing people, specifically cherishing negative people, is a meaning of this text, no? I will always hold them dear from the depths of my heart Cherish others as supreme (Destructive emotions will) hurt both me and others. I will cherish them as something rare, ...

True true. So there are humans, which exist, and there is happening itself, which exists. The happening is the teacher.

But is there only one meaning in this teaching from Geshe Langri Thangpa? Others?

Re: Cherish me as supreme

Thank you for the great quotes and links. Verse 6 of 8 for trainingthe mind: Even when someone I have helped, Or in whom I have placed great hopes Mistreats me very unjustly, I will view that person as a true spiritual teacher. This works for me. Have others found that this definition of a spiritual...

Cherish me as supreme

Hello friends, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has recited these eight versus all of his life. And it helps him. They help me a lot. You know the kind of teaching which shows you the gap between now and enlightenment.... http://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/geshe-langri-thangpa/eight-verses-train...

Re: Amazing story of paying karmic debt

regarding gisin, from my brother The original source appears to be https://arxiv.org/pdf/quant-ph/9806043.pdf. If you want details, I would go straight there. Please ask questions. I'm sure I can help. Experiments like these have been going on for more than 40 years. The earlier reports could be eas...

Re: Are humans forever?

when humans become extinct, will there still be buddhism? could it (e.g. basic buddhist beliefs) arise under a different name? or would someone like padmasambava, that name, always be in play?

Re: Amazing story of paying karmic debt

Yes I need details on the experiment. I have heard of this experiment, and if it is true (passes the common sense test) then it could have something to do with Buddhist emtpiness (specifically "lack of defining characteristics" -- see eight doors to emptiness). I have resources in Physics ...

Just Buddhism

Hello dear friends, What is the scope of buddhism? Is it just humans? Humans and animals? Everything that ever was and will be? Or do different parts of the Buddhist Dharma have different scopes? For example, do the four noble truths (truth of suffering, its cause, its cessation, and the path to ces...

Re: Amazing story of paying karmic debt

Yes. Thst is it. As best i can understand it. Your second option describes it well. ..of course the tricky part that you got at there is how absolute truth/emptiness/interdependence spins up into "existing as a not self". But that could be very natural evolution of life (to point where kar...

Re: Amazing story of paying karmic debt

Its true. But question, just how trivial is this human situation? I mean, i have feelings, good bad and ugly. This man had feelings, surely, good bad and ugly, as do you two. So how do you go from the trivialization of human extinction to the stable and long term idea of improving karma across lifet...

I don't see a problem. If we can be reborn as dogs, butterflies, hungry ghosts, etc, then surely we can be reborn as giant squid in the Marianas Trench, or spider-like critters .....
