Hi Dakota,

Welcome to DharmaWheel. Yes, there are many good books available to get you started. You'll get many recommendations. One good choice is called Gates to Buddhist Practice by Chagdud Tulku.

If you can, it also helps to begin checking out different practice groups, centers, & temples in your community. If you'd like some help finding them, or finding the best ones, make a post in the main forum below. "Hi, I'm looking for places to practice near ____ in NZ..."

All the best,
Jikan

Hey, I'm in New Zealand too. South Island's West Coast to be precise.

Welcome to Dharma Wheel.

Hi and welcome Dakota. :hi:

There's some introductory books listed here http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=13014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
