Hello everyone,
Made an account ~9 months ago but I may start contributing soon so I figure I should introduce myself. My name is Michael, or your preferred variation/derivative, or DespreTine works too.
I've been studying and practicing for the past four years, though I only got serious about a year ago. Started off with a Shambhala retreat, got completely turned off of Vajrayana for about two years, spent time learning and practicing Theravada, flirted with Zen, got turned off of Zen, and found my way back to Vajrayana. At this point in time I don't have a guru and don't officially belong to any lineages. I am still doing Shambhala training, I attend a local FPMT center for both practice and occasional classes, and I'm figuring out a way I can start attending a Shangpa Kagyu center.
Along with my daily practice I'm also a voracious reader. I study both religious and academic sources for understanding the Dharma, I'm working my way through a couple sutras currently and I'm slowly going through Tibetan works like Gampopa's "Jewel Ornament" and Patrul Rinpoche's "Words of My Perfect Teacher."
Grateful for the chance to test and clarify my understanding.

Hi Despretine,
Sounds like youve got quite a bit of experience in various Dharmas. Youll be a great addition to the board!

Hi Mike,
That's cool. My Buddhist path hasn't been a simple one either.
Welcome aboard!
