Hsu Yun and Chan

I'm a Theravadan practioner, and I'm looking to learn about and incorporate Chan teachings into my practice. Particularly that of Hsu Yun. Any recommendations on books/ebooks?

Well, there is a lot of stuff online, but my first introduction to the teachings of Master Hsu Yun was via Charles Luk's Ch'an and Zen teachings Vol 1-3. They have a fair bit of and about Hsu Yun.

Fwiw, when Ajahn Pannavado was still alive, I recall one time when we were discussing mahayana and he specifically singled out hsu yun as an example of someone whose teachings would be worth following and could lead to awakening.

I am told a translation of his full teachings is in the pipeline, but that was 5-6 years ago I last heard anything about that.

Ch'an Master Hui Neng was a powerhouse and the commentator, the late bodhisattva Hsuan Hua was also.

Are any of Charles Luks books of translations of Hsu Yun in print? I can only find rather expensive used copies.

I enjoyed the book Zen Teaching of Instantaneous Awakening by Ch'an Master Hui Hai (translated by John Blofeld, with a foreword by Charles Luk Hui Hai)

Have you considered receiving instruction from a living Chan teacher?
