Roshi Shunryu Suzuki said to "push your diaphragm down toward your hatha"
I don't understand how to do this. does this mean to flex my stomach muscles?
Suzuki Posture
Re: Suzuki Posture
I expect this comes from the section on posture in Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind:
I have no idea what Suzuki Roshi taught in person. But this sort of breathing does not involve firing the abdominals.

If so, this is a general (I would say partial) description of tanden soku. Also to gain strength in your posture, press your diaphragm down toward your hara, or lower abodomen.

Re: Suzuki Posture
To actually implement the task "simply sit", has nothing to do with "postures". To focus on the task "simply sit" .. and "remaining in that" (»practice«), therefore without actually implementing the bare task .. that has something to do with "postures" .. and artificial "states of mind".mddrill wrote:Roshi Shunryu Suzuki said to "push your diaphragm down toward your hatha" I don't understand how to do this. does this mean to flex my stomach muscles?
