Re: Vision going blurry?
If it happens only during meditation, you try to make something special of sitting there. You might be focusing somewhere for too long for instance. If it happens in other, everyday situations, consult with a medical expert.
1 Myriad dharmas are only mind.
Mind is unobtainable.
What is there to seek?
2 If the Buddha-Nature is seen,
there will be no seeing of a nature in any thing.
3 Neither cultivation nor seated meditation —
this is the pure Chan of Tathagata.
4 With sudden enlightenment to Tathagata Chan,
the six paramitas and myriad means
are complete within that essence.

Re: Vision going blurry?
Same thing happens to me if I'm not careful.
I think it may come from leaving the eyes too relaxed and unfocused while meditating.
Part of the posture is keeping a soft gaze about 45 degrees down in front of you, so when you come to out of a distraction and check your posture, include your eyes.
And if you wear glasses, keep them on while sitting.
Hope that helps.

This is interesting.mddrill wrote:while sitting sometimes my vision goes blurry and my eyes start to hurt

If the blurriness happens only when you're in meditation, and you have no medical issues with your eyes, then I suggest you speak to a knowledgeable teacher about your practice. Seek out dokusan. Talk with your teacher.
Re: Vision going blurry?
Problems with your "states of consciousness"? That's because you're "practicing" simply sitting instead of simply sitting. You misunderstand resp. deeply "do not want to understand" your actual task. Recognice the difference .. and simply sit.mddrill wrote:while sitting sometimes my vision goes blurry and my eyes start to hurt

Re: Vision going blurry?
@mddrill: Maybe you're experience hypnagogic states and losing some control over your eye muscles when letting go and relaxing. Maybe your muscles are correcting your vision in normal day consciousness, they relax in meditation and you really should wear glasses. Maybe your focus shifts (to near or far) and as a result your image gets blurry. As you're not voluntarily doing it, but only observing your body (what many people are not usually doing except in meditation), it may somewhat surprise you.
Maybe, maybe, maybe.
Observe the observation and don't construct any meaning from it. Just make sure you're not "doing" anything (*cough*).
Best wishes
