Website glitches, upgrades

As many of you know there have been several glitches in the software, with more and more recurring ones. As one gets fixed, another pops up. We have been using the phpBB software to run this forum. So now we are looking into upgrading to V-bulletin. It should have some better features and then there should be the ability to subscribe to your postings too, which never worked here. We will possibly be doing this upgrade within the next 2 weeks. I'll keep you posted.

I hope our archive doesn't get lost in any upgrades.

Hi Huseng,

That was my concern too and why we haven't done it earlier. But we can do a back-up just before the upgrade and then also my web-tech-expert son assured me that we wouldn't lose any posts or members.

Okay. That makes sense concerning the post history bug. Thanks for the update!

Here are a couple of examples of forums using V-bulletin:

http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/forum.php (this forum has lots of ads, but we still won't have any)

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/

Although you may have to join to see the full effect of the features. The security code for the skyscraper forum shows a picture where you must enter a sentence to register; which should prevent a lot of spammers.

Hi David!

Thanks for the info.

Will there be a functional chat room as part of the upgrade?

Thank you for your generosity for funding this non-commercial site and upgrading to a better platform. Spam prevention sounds great!

If the new version has a possibility of not having to archive personal messages after you get to 100, that would be more convenient.

It's been interesting how sites are all all going to really small font sizes in the last few years, like your samples sites. I'm guessing it has something to do with cell phone compatibility. That is only slightly inconvenient, because I can adjust my browser... but if it is practical it would be nice to have a larger font. Middle age!

When I click on "View your posts" I receive the error message:

[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/includes/search/fulltext_native.php on line 819: Missing argument 14 for fulltext_native::author_search(), called in [ROOT]/search.php on line 423 and defined

instead of my posts.

Just about to post the same problem & same warning -- also appears when trying to Search...

It is true what Yodron says. If I keep the display of my browser at 100%, then I can see only tiny letters that are impossible to be read.
Also, "View your posts" does not work for me anymore.
I am looking forward to see the new upgrade!!!

V-bulletin was up and running for about 15 minutes over at Dhamma Wheel (a few days ago), but had one slight technicality: the database did not transfer over users' passwords and no one could log-in. So we switched it back to phpBB until we can get all the problems figured out in why the full database did not fully transfer over. All posts over there remained intact as we switched back to the old software.

So, unfortunately, this is taking much longer than anticipated. As a result, we will be working on some of the current bugs in this software since the transition might be further down the road.
