What Color is this Dress?

Post by Bakmoon »

The whole internet is arguing over this photo:

Some people say it's white with gold trim and others say it's blue and black. In any case, it's one cool optical trick.

Personally, It looks to me like an overexposed blue and black picture.

Here is an article that deals with this dress color and why some people are seeing it so differently. Make sure that you do the "read more" part to see all of the theories. Also, I think the photo is not blown up in the article and so is more accurate for people to view it. Being blown up allows for more of the pixels to be seen.

According to the manufacturer, it is blue and black. According to me, if I see it one more time, I'm going to throw my computer across the room.

Look at the top "sand" band. It is gold on the right side.

But this morning now the lower sand bands on the dress look earth tone.

I never saw the colour black become golden in the shadow.
Isn't this thing a very good online fake only? Somehow, that the dress looks different from time to time on different screens?
They are very successful with this riddle.

What you see depends a lot on what version of the photo you see, and on what monitor you view it. After seeing the photo more times than there are grains of sand in the Ganges, I could only see blue and black. I assumed the whole exercise was one of those "invent your own reality" propaganda exercises, where, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it.

Finally, I say another version of the photo (less cropped, I think, and probably processed differently) where I could see what others were claiming to see. It still looked blue and black, but I could see where people were getting the gold and white idea from.

Speaking of the colour blue:
I'm not fully convinced by the arguments used in this essay, but they're interesting:

The showed the damn dress on the evening news, Friday night, and I was shocked to see it --it was black and a deep blue. Still find it hard to believe.

I did it with my family--- same photo, same monitor, same computer, same everything. 2 of us saw white and gold and 2 of us saw blue and black.

I saw white and gold. If you cover up the whole picture except a small part of the white or blue section you should be able to get it to change color. Then slowly uncover the image.

A flash of lightning in a summer cloud,
A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.
