Being unmarried and not having children to raise, I have more time to study Buddhism and practice the Dharma. I can also live a simpler life. But not having a spouse, I do get sexually frustrated from time to time. I am also looked down upon in society for being single at my age. I think it all depends on a person's priority.
There is no meaning to cyclic existence.

They don't show what's in it for women. I understand men are generally more eager to marry these days than women.

Far too much talk about success, career and promotions... I find objectionable. The one point that jumped out at me was rites of passage and yes since time immemorial these have meaning, whether you are a Maasai, Aboriginal, Eskimo or a man living in a modern city, they are markers indicating adulthood... it can be very important in the eyes of family and society.
Many women don't want to get married or feel they are being tied down especially if they are earning well....till they reach 35 or older and then the biological clock makes the matter very urgent!

Many cultures (Tibetans for example) do not even have marriage rites... does that mean that they are not men in those cultures?

According to the "logic" of the video title: "Be a Man. Get Married." ...a gay man that marries his partner is more of a "man" than a hetero man that is unmarried.

I wonder if the video's producers considered this when they came up with the whole retarded concept? ;)

PS The video also makes the completely false premise that to have a family one needs to get married. Bzzzzzzzzzzt... wrong! I guess all the producers and writers were away sick when the sex education class on reproduction was being taught.

It s more difficult to stay married. Men should be educated in how to prevent the causes and effects of midlife crisis.

I wonder if divorce should be considered another essential rite of passage. In secular society anyway.

Birth, marriage, sickness, crisis, divorce, aging, death. Its got a but more punch to it. Starts to sound more real.

Divorce exists, and is legal, in religious societies too. And quite common.

Which society (or country, I suppose) would you consider secular anyway?

Good point. Divorce rates are high. Extra-marital affair rates are high. The problem is not men remaining single, the problem goes into much bigger issues about demands and expectations people place on each other. Here is a good video that ironically was just posted by someone at our sister DW site:

In Buddhism there is no sacrament or requirement for marriage. Getting married or deciding to remain single; either is acceptable. More important is an adjustment in our attitudes toward love and others.

Wouldn't you say its more about the demands and expectations we place on ourselves?

Doesn't answer the question, but it's not important anyway...

Ultimately? Death. Somehow I don't think marriage will save me from that.
