Re: World Chess Championship 2016
I remember a few years ago now Carlsen created a online chess game where the computer gameplay was based off his moves and tactics.
He did an introduction video where he seemed really nice and down to earth, although he admitted he got annoyed when he lost to himself

There's a really good wrap on the event in the NY Times here.
I like the last paragraph in the story:

What a champion.Mr. Carlsen said it was the most difficult of his championship matches, adding, “I’m very happy that at the end of the match I managed to find joy in playing.” He added, “That’s the most important thing.”

Re: World Chess Championship 2016
Hey, nice thread. I once beat an international master and drew ( in casual games ) so that was my crowning achievement in chess; studying for a decade or so without tournaments, just for the enjoyment / love for the game. . . I am finally getting back into it more, so that feels very nice. Nice to follow the big matches, too -- no one mentioned so far, that Magnus won on his birthday! He is 26. Happy Birthday. . . December 30th , the Norwegian's day of birth...
