Cheerful Thought For The Day

Post by Malcolm »

We're doomed:

How bad could it get? A recent study by MIT projects that without "rapid and massive action" to cut carbon pollution, the Earth's temperature could soar by nine degrees this century. "There are no analogies in human history for a temperature jump of that size in such a short time period," says Tony McMichael, an epidemiologist at Australian National University. The few times in human history when temperatures fell by seven degrees, he points out, the sudden shift likely triggered a bubonic plague in Europe, caused the abrupt collapse of the Moche civilization in Peru and reduced the entire human race to as few as 1,000 breeding pairs after a volcanic eruption blocked out the sun some 73,000 years ago. "We think that because we are a technologically sophisticated society, we are less vulnerable to these kinds of dramatic shifts in climate," McMichael says. "But in some ways, because of the interconnectedness of our world, we are more vulnerable."

Yes, you are doomed, we are all doomed, spirit and form alike. Anything with a self is doomed to dissolution, aad will not presevere.
It is not the self that is enlightened but the aware thing that understands, and that which it understands is that no such solitary thing exists. Self is violently or peacefully dissolved, to that which it evolved...nothingness. Awarness when aware it persists.... this congitive understanding thing.... not self nor soul. We mistake retentive aspect as real thing.

That aside.... not on a human (or not small scale persepctive), of consideration, the living thing that is world/earth is in its terms afflicted by a virus. The virus like perhaps a bad flu is not terminal but can produce much sickness in its host. And in all probability this particular virus will, when the primary symptoms of sickness devolve by fever, not be completely eradicated, but remain, to attack its host when the conditions again exist that favor its propogation and dessimation. But such conditions may be rare and few, as birds little resemble what from they did evolve.

Sometime in the future. Sickness to the earth may be health to the human. And the opposite...it all depends upon perspective.

Billiuons upon billions will die, a scale of mass deaths and destructions never before considered nor fathomable by human, seeing and acting always, the I and me, and thusly very very small in all considerations... human can only consider this way.

Some will escape (in their view) to planets of similiar structure. But so small in number and so restricted in variance of ability.... to make dharma in such places, as practice, virtually impossible. So they will devolve to cave dwelling underground things not recognizable to us human as human by our now present terms. Very eventually.

And none will escape the restraints and constraints which prevent such virus as human from propagating to all places. If such was possible such whould have happened long ago. The universe is expanding and this galaxy is on a direct collision course with another. Eternity is not to be had by anything of form, or that which depends upon relationship to form to presevere. Atoms themselves eventually will expand beyond their functional abilities as we know them.

Have no fear however...all things that are as we are with cognitive aspect and retention will eventually achieve the unachievable and become enlightened, and no more as self. Dharma is in all things and of all things and cannot be eradicated by loss of form or type of displayal.
Have great fear for your self however, and all that you envision as yourself.
"This order considers that progress can be achieved more rapidly during a single month of self-transformation through terrifying conditions in rough terrain and in "the abode of harmful forces" than through meditating for a period of three years in towns and monasteries"....Takpo Tashi Namgyal.

Indeed, but there is no need to hasten the process through poor ecological management.

Fully agree, Loppon. No need at all. We need to conserve as much as we can.
