37 point mandala symbolism

Postby dakini_boi » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:53 pm

According to WOMPT, each element on the 37-point mandala has several levels of meaning, corresponding to different levels of practice. This symbolism is not described in the text, instead the reader is referred to Jigme Lingpa's Detailed Commentary on the Condensed Meaning (dgongs 'dus rnam bshad). Does anyone know if this is translated into English, or if there is any other text in English that explains this symbolism? Dudjom Rinpoche's long ngondro commentary has beautiful descriptions of the 37 elements, but doesn't really go into the different levels of symbolism.

“It is not the notion of friend or enemy that you need to stop but the bias that comes from attachment and hostility, which are based on the reason that some people are your friends and others your enemies.”

Thank you, Konchog. However this isn't quite what I was looking for, I am interested in the specific symbolic meaning of each element of the mandala.
