I love this one, I always used it until I got a Mac. I can't find a mac version to download anywhere. If anyone has a suggestion I'd be most grateful!

Laura, there is a 2011 Tibetan Astrological Calendar available through Itunes as an app. A large portion of the proceeds go to support the Liberation Prison Project one of FPMT's many charitable projects.

I just found out from Buz Overbeck's relative that he passed away, so the E-calendar is off for now. However, as I happen to be a software engineer, i just volunteered to help put out a new one.

I know nothing about the astrology system however.

I have finally put a prototype of a Tibetan calendar together based on Buz's original. I will put he prototype online within the next couple of days. This will run on virtually all platforms as it is a Java application. However I need to double check the xml calendar data that I currently have. I cannot guarantee that the calendar will be completely correct until I see the Rigpa calendar or another authentic Tibetan calendar.

I finished a very beta version of the Tibetam calendar for year 2138 (Mar 2011 - Feb 2012) and put it at: http://www.kirtundercoffer.com/projects ... index.html The calendar currently follows Buz Overbeck's application format except it is very bare bones right now (it lacks astrological information and probably always will, but it also lacks geographic settings, etc.).

I still need to go over the calendar data and make sure it is correct (it is correct for most days).

I wrote this under Linux and it looks okay on my Linux machine. However I'm not so happy with the look under Windows so I'll look into putting out a C# version. I have no way of checking out the look and feel under MacOS. I'd appreciate it if people would give it a spin and let me know how it works out on their machine.

I packaged the application and the libraries for it in one, single JAR file (a JAR file is a Java executable file): TibetanCalendar2138.jar. Just download the file and double click on the icon that your system creates to run it. This will run under Linux, MacOS X and WIndows.

Within the next week I'll make several modifications as time permits but right now it's a minimally functional calendar.

I would like to check it out - but i am a computer dunce. Could you tell me how one 'creates an application directory'? Normally I just download things and they give me suggestions as to where they will go, but if I have to make somewhere for it to go - I have never done this - yet - if anybody knows how this step is done....I am more than willing to trial run it for you on a windows7 desktop...

Hi Madeliaette -

I packaged everything into a single JAR file this morning. As long as Java is installed and correctly configured on your machine then you just download the application (TibetanCalendar2138.jar - a JAR file is a Java executable file - I wrote it in Java so that it will run practically anywhere) and double click on it (I haven't used MacOS in a while - maybe on Mac's you just single click on it). This is a very bare bones application and it will not suggest where to download the application (Mac will - the application itself will not - there's no installer process for it).

How do I run it, Kirt? When I click on it, it gives me the option to extract it with all allzip.

Btw, my OS is Windows 7.

I have Windows 7 too - and it worked OK for me. I just right clicked the link then pressed the 'save as' download option and saved it to my desktop, then clicked it and it opened fine... & I clicked ahead a few days to make sure it didnt stick....
Maybe you don't have that Java thingy needed? Perhaps if you downloaded it to downloads rather than desktop or used a run rather than save as it came out differently for you....? I am not very computer savvy, so there is probably some other simple thing I havent thought of....

Hi Dechen -

It is intended to be run just by double clicking on it.

Java is not properly configured on your machine or W7 is keeping it from running due to a security configuration. It might also be because jar files on your machine are not configured to be launched with Java (there is an association list [at least under previous Windows OS's] that tells the system what application to launch to run a file) - but if this were the case then your machine couldn't run a great deal of software so that's unlikely. I'll check and see what to do (I cannt get W7 on either of my ailing Windows machines).

You *might* be able to right click on the jar file and an option may come up to run as ... or run using in which case a list will be presented and Java may be on that list (it would be the Java intepreter installed on your machine).

You can check if Java is available generally on your system by going to the command line and typing java [ENTER] where [ENTER] means pressing the enter key. You should get the help output from the java interpreter.

So let me check and see if this is likely a security thing or what.
