Two years ago I suffered a terrible shock trauma related to violence. Since then I have often panic attacks at night or during daytime. It is so terrible, I can not even move. It is a huge pressure and tightness in my chest. In particular, sound is a very big trigger. When I hear a loud noice, suh as the banging of a door or people yelling, suddenly I can suffer from immense fear and panic attacks. I can relive my source experience I had and I dont feel frightened. It is not that I try to suppress my memories at all. Now I have this kind of physical condition of these panic attacks. They can have all kinds of objects: Noice, bad news etc and they are very irrational. Even though I know this, it is like a terrible condition, that I can't stop and just 'happens'. Before my traumatic experience I did not have any problems and I never experienced these sensations. I dont want to take western drugs. I think it may be a heavy lung condition. I read this article: http://www.rinpoche.com/teachings/causes.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the symptoms I have are described as 'srog-dzin lung'.
What is the common treatment for this? Is it the same as what people sometimes call lung disease or is it another kind of disorder?
I am thankful for every input,
Kath

Common treatments include massage, herbs such as Agar 35, and so on.

From what a friend, that had this from doing practice to intensively, told me it seems that you also need patience because it can take a long time to cure this. If you have the possibility to see Tsoknyi Rinpoche or a Tibetan doctor that might actually be helpful for your condition.

Re: Sroglung?
Are there other therapies against Lung that are more strong? Tibetan medicine like Agar 35, Bimala does not help at all. I want to express my great gratitude for all your help.
Re: Sroglung?
Dear Katharina,
by my limited experience, Tibetan Buddhism doesn't always help in this kind of situation. Along the years, I have met even very good meditators who did not manage to let go of traumatic experiences or strong and hurtful character trades. Friends even kept those after years of retreat and they were not lacking guidance or instructions for sure. All along they had good experiences just as the teachers, commentaries and even common sense affirm.
One of my close friends did a therapy called "Somatic Experiencing" and got rid of stuff, that accompied him for decades of intense practice.
I personally think that the medic acitivity of the bodhisattvas is not limited to what we know from the Tibetan side of things.
Cheers,
Marco
