Discuss and learn about the traditional Mahayana scriptures, without assuming that any one school ‘owns’ the only correct interpretation.

The First Ever Complete & Genuine Translation of the Avatam

Post by Leo Rivers »

This triple threat great good news also makes me want to ask about a score of questrions. In academic translations there are critical editions of actual manuscipts and attempts to build up a model of what a a complete text might comtain. This is I think, but am uncertain,is the core of the criticism that lays behind Conzes 100,000 line Large Perfection edition.

The one that actully impacts me now is the integrity of the 10 Stages Chapter in Cleary. Is that a collage as well? If so, is it a good collage or a desprately misleading one?

Thanks Leo

>
> He was also one of the group of three American monks who were the very first Americans to ever take full bhikshu ordination in the Chinese Buddhist tradition (Hai Hui Monastery, Chilung, Taiwan, Nov., 1969). He is the author of approximately 25 translations of Chinese Buddhist Canonical Texts, most of which originated from Sanskrit.

I mean Avatamsaka translation. I have red Cleary's translation (pdf format). It took about 3 months.
