BPF action part of Portland Shell protest

Post by kirtu »

Some members of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship are taking part in the protest against Shell drilling in Portland. Currently they are keeping a Shell icebreaker from leaving port. The people from the BPF are meditating silently on the bridge from which other people are dangling in midair.

As the sun rises we meditate. Peace is the way. Arctic drilling is not. #SaveTheArctic

"Knocked to my knees in awe and wonder of the audacity of this action, I led a small group meditation at the foot of the bridge this afternoon, focused on the wish and intention, 'May all beings be safe.'" - Portland BPFer Kathryn Kendall from today's ‪#‎ShellNo‬ bridge protest.

No arrests have been made, so it looks like the protestors are settling in for the week. Will you dedicate the merits of your practice to support these brave activists, wishing not only for their safety, but for the safety of all from climate catastrophe?

 indeed.
It is often hard to find ways of contributing to a cause like this, that are both useful and in accordance with dharma, but untold suffering is in store for many of the world's most vulnerable people unless we can mitigate climate change - and that means leaving carbon in the ground.
