Using mantra practice to attain Dhyana Samadi?

Post by Matticus »

Does anyone here know of any information, or resources about using mantra practice to attain Dhyana/Jhana concentration? I think I've heard of it as Japa, at some point, but I'm almost completely unsure of any real details.

Instead of being mindfull of the breath be mindful of the Mantra it works in the same manner your just using a different object.

before entering the first Dhyana you will experience a nimitta, Upon entering the first dhyana there will be no discursive thought only the applied focus on your meditaton object (breath or mantra)

Upon entering the second Dhyana the meditation object itself will fade away and drop off.

Look up Buddho mantra and how it is put into practice.

what is nimitta?
If the thought of demons
Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

Nimitta is the mental object that leads one into Dhyana it is mentioned in MN 128.

Essentially most people will experience a "bright light" before entering Dhyana,
This bright light is a Nimitta, some call it seeing through the minds eye since the "light" you are seeing has nothing to do with actual eyesight.

When the Nimitta arises make that your object of concentration, this will lead you in Dhyana during the 2nd Dhyana the obsorbtion is so strong even the focus on the mental object ceases.... The doer is gone and only the watcher/knower remains.

All Dhayana is done to lead one to the 3 knowledges(visions)
