help with dzogchen books

Post by lucian »

Hello! I have received transmission from Chogyal Namkhai Norbu last week and would like to start practicing but don`t know which books I should order, apart from Guru Yoga. Please tell me which are the essential books for a dzogchen beginner.

The Crystal and the Way of Light by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu
The Practice of Dzogchen by Longchenpa and Tulku Thondup
Bonpo Dzogchen Teachings by Lopon Tenzin Namdak

All of the above help clarify the View. The Precious Vase by ChNN is also required reading but it may be a bit much for your first foray so get comfortable first.

Additionally you will want to get the Tun book and look into the practices of the Semdzins, Rushen and Lojongs; there's a seperate booklet for these but those teachings are also explained in The Precious Vase.

Thank you for your quick response! I don`t know if it is against forum policy, but can you give me a website where I could order them, preferably from Europe? I live in Romania and have a hard time finding books. I have found the Crystal and the Way of Light here, i will get it.

The Practice of Dzogchen and Bonpo Dzogchen teachings should be available from any European Amazon site (PM me if you can't get them). You can get all Dzogchen Community books from the Shang Shang Institute stores (some sites have different stock from others).

SSI Italy (main store)

SSI UK
http://www.shangshunguk.org/v1/index.ph ... &Itemid=44" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

SSI Austria
https://www.ssi-austria.at/shop/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

To order the Tun book, Lojongs, Rushen and Semdzins and The Precious Vase you will need to be a paid member. Merigar East will be your Gar of reference http://www.dzogchen.ro/membership" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just wanted to put out there that Rinpoche's THE SONG OF THE VAJRA book was really essential to me. I couldn't get my head around any of his teaching until I read that book. I am not a great practitioner, but it might be helpful for you as well.

agreed..the Song of the Vajra book is an absolute must have as well as The Crystal and the Way of Light. I would also highly recommend the book,
"Teachings on Lojongs, Rushens, and Semdzins" and "The Cycle of Day and Night". And of course the Guruyoga book. If you have these five books and continue watching webcasts you almost wont need anything else unless you find that you need a secondary practice for your particular circumstances.
"But if you know how to observe yourself, you will discover your real nature, the primordial state, the state of Guruyoga, and then all will become clear because you will have discovered everything"-Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche
