Continuation

Post by bhava »

Hi, to continue in the state of rigpa, the main practice is said to be 4 ways of leaving as it is, beyond doings of mind and effort. The point is not get distracted. Some sources claim that in the beginning though, some sort of effort to maintain presence or rigpa is still needed. What kind of effort or non distraction is applied in this case? Thanks.

Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche always emphasized ,short moments but repeated many times. This way the periods of distraction are said to gradually diminish by themselves rather than preocupying yourself with thoughts of non-distraction which can sometimes turn into a distraction in and of it's self.

The practice of Dzogchen', a collection of Longchenpas writings, translated by Tulku Thondrup covers exactly what you're asking about and more.
'When thoughts arise, recognise them clearly as your teacher'— Gampopa
'When alone, examine your mind, when among others, examine your speech'.— Atisha

Thank You I think very good answer. You see some teachers emphasize more training in mindfulness prior to training in rigpa. Without sufficient capacity of having undistracted mindful presence ones recognition of rigpa is necessarily unstable, and one may fall into conceptualizations and other traps.
