8th Karmapa empowerment

Post by cck123 »

Can you tell me why there is no empowerment for Guru Yoga on Mikyö Dorje.
Usually this is necessary (Milarepa, Gampopa, Marpa, Karma Pakshi, 15th Karmapa and others)?

Thank you!

Simply stated, because the 8the Karmapa did not see it necessary to have an initiation for this practice, when he wrote the practice text.

Meanwhile (and I'm aware you probably already know everything I'll say),you can aks teachers for blessing for this practice. Obviously it also requires a lung, and explanation. Practicing together is best.

Also, it's often recommended (not required) to receive empowerments of other earlier lineage masters like Mila or Pakshi, and related yidams like Yogini and/or Demchok.

One Rinpoche blessed me for the practice by reciting some main lines of the prayers, while another shared some stories and then chanted the mantra. I quite like the informal approach of it all.
