Jodo Shu Research Institute

Post by sth9784 »

I have been trying to find information on whether the Jodo Shu Research Institute (English page) is down for good, or just temporarily. Does anyone have any info on this? I can access the JSRI page in Japanese but am unable to read Japanese, so I have no idea what is going on. There was a lot of information on that page, and I would hate to have it gone, so I am wondering if anyone has an archive of the site.

Someone on the Jodo Shu Google group hooked us up, you should be able to get to most of the teachings here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20120220112 ... /Main.html
https://web.archive.org/web/20070702024 ... ching.html

I have no idea how long it's down for.
Tatsuo was just visiting the JSRI offices recently, he may know.
They don't say anything about it on the jsri.jp Japanese page, I just checked.
You may want to submit an inquiry asking when the site will come back up (I'm fairly sure they have English speakers they can ask):
https://ssl.jodo.or.jp/jsri.jodo.or.jp/ ... =jsri-info
The fields are as follows:
1. Address
2. Phone Number
3. Name
4. Email
5. Email confirmation
6. Temple affiliation
7. Drop down box for region. Pick the one that says 51 ハワイ - for Hawaii, or 52 北米 - for North America.
8. (to the right of 7) is group size I think.
9. Temple number
10. (to the right of 9) Temple name
11. Big text box for entering your inquiry.
Button at the bottom on the left is "submit"; on the right is "cancel".
Maybe if a bunch of us fill this out they'll let us know when the English site is back up.

The JSRI website seems to have been down only recently - not more than a few weeks. I guess they are working on it. Unfortunately I don't know anything more about it. We were talking about the jodo.org website but not about the JSRI website.

I submitted one of those inquiries last night in English & Japanese, so hopefully I'll hear something...
The http://english.jodoshuna.org/ site has been down as well.

Thanks for the links, will have to save the information, because I do not know of any other place with the amount of information about Jodo Shu (in English) on the web.

I had no idea about the North American site being down. Both going down close together is strange, but hopefully it is just some sort of update or maintenance.

I don't know if anyone else has realized it, but for anyone who cares, the JSRI is back on-line, but it has changed somewhat, and looks quite dated (maybe temporary?).

I think it's the 2005 version, which may not be a bad thing - around 2008 there seemed to be more Jodo Shu info floating around, possibly a translation of ShanTao's Commentary on the Contemplation Sutra. I'm glad it's back, but I'm not sure how long it's going to stay on this version. I'll try to get back on the Raft from the Other Shore study group as soon as I can.
