This is Congo

Post by BrianG »

A movie that I helped produce has been submitted to Sundance, and should be finishing post-production by January. This trailer is old, but should get the point across -

Thanks for watching,

A very poignant video. Scant attention is paid to the millions that have died; the plight of the Pygmies and other tribal communities in the great forests of the Congo. Debates on this topic often centre on the Amazon, given the high-profile destruction of its forest biodiversity. However, a troubling rise in deforestation in Central Africa – home to the world’s second largest tropical forest is receiving very little attention.
Two-thirds of Africa’s remaining forests are located in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These forests span 1.7 million km², which is equivalent to one-third of Brazil’s Amazon. They also store 22 billion tonnes of carbon, ranking them among the world’s largest remaining carbon reserves. The great forest needs to be preserved, protected, people need to sit up and take notice as current and future lives both human and animal depend on it.
As an aside the destruction and burning of the last remaining forests of Indonesia has had very little attention amongst the main stream media. Greed and short term gain win every time.
