Hello there,
Geshe Sonam's uncle, Sera Jey Khen Rinpoche Lobsang Delek, was the abbot of Gyudmed Tantric College for some years and so has been invited to Japan a number of times. On some of those occasions he has granted initiations in Shingon institutions to Shingon priests.
Can anyone tell me the name of the monastery in these photos and confirm it is a monastery of the Shingon sect?

Re: abbot of sera jey monastery initiation with shingon prie
Hello!
If anyone is still interested, I've been able to locate the temple in question. It is the Taima-dera Temple in Nara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taima-dera) which is said to be quite unique because it belongs both to Shingon and Pure Land sects, priests from Shingon and Pure Land holding the office of chief priest in shifts. The temple is famous for housing an important Pure Land mandala.
I wonder what kind of initiations were given. I am very interested in all interactions between Tibetan and Japanese Buddhism.

I can't add any information of value to this thread, but I just want to say that it's great to see two different schools of Buddhism coming together in such a special way and benefiting each other!

Thanks for taking the time to find the info!
Mostly Rinpoche gives Kriya Tantra intiations there, especially Chenrezig and Green Tara. He has given Yamantaka as well but I am not sure if this was in the actual Shingon monastery itself, though several in priest garb did attend.
