Jingoji Temple in Washington State

Post by DGA »

It looks as though the jingoji.org website is no longer up. Has the Shingon temple in Fall City, WA left this world, or merely vacated the internet?

From what I understand, Jingo-ji is still extant in Redmond (perhaps not digitally), but without a teacher at this present time as resident Rev. Hosho Nishibu recently returned to Japan.

My name is missho. I’m a priest at Jingoji Temple. I’ve been a student of Rev. Nishibu since 98. This thread was just brought to my attention. The previous post by tktru about Jingoji is not quite accurate.

Jingoji’s website went down when we forgot to renew the domain name. To make a long story short, when we went to renew the name a “domain broker” had already taken the name, and doesn’t seem to be willing to sell it back to us for a reasonable price. That’s a shame because we used that domain name for so long. We do intend to create a new website under a new domain name, though things have gone rather slow.

Rev. Nishibu is still the head priest of Jingoji Temple. He’s also the founder. He spends time going between Jingoji and his Temple in Japan; which is the way it has always been. He is currently in Sri Lanka where he also has students.

Tktru might be confusing Jingoji Temple with Seattle Koyasan Temple. Their resident priest (Rev. Imanaka Taijo) did just recently return to Japan at the end of March (I think it was). I was told by the members there that a new resident priest will be coming soon.

In regards to Jingoji’s website, I will post any updates here for those interested.

Thanks for the clarification! I come from the Los Angeles Betsuin and I was only given very scant information about Jingo-ji from Bishop Miyata. Speaking of websites, LA Koyasan also has problems with website management.

Hello,

I just wanted to give an update in regards to my post back in June.

It took a while, but we now have our website back up. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get our old domain name back, so the new website is jingoji.net. The new site is in both Japanese and English. For now it’s mostly pretty basic information, but we hope to improve on it in the future and perhaps make it a little more interesting.

Also, in case there is anybody that is near the Seattle area, feel free to visit the temple for the New Year’s holiday. We will be conducting several services for the next few days. Please see the website’s events section for times.

Take care, and I wish everyone a wonderful coming New Year!
