I have met Tulku Wangdrak.
Yes, he's a direct descendent of Dudjom Lingpa.
He studied at Serta. He is a Dudjom Tersar lineage holder--
and has recently given lung for the entire Dudjom Tersar in California--
his new residence. He is very powerful.

Update: As HH Chagme Rinpoche passed away yesterday, it is no longer possible to receive empowerment, transmission, or instructions from him until his reincarnation is found and trained.

However, I'm sure that the 5th Neydo Sangtrul Rinpoche---the new head of the lineage and son of Chagme Rinpoche---would be more than happy to help beings connect to the practice, especially since Karma Chagme was so intimately involved in the preservation and editing of texts currently available for Chöd practice.

What Lama did you receive the Chod practice from in the Drikung lineage? The Lama who has given Cho empowerment, transmission and commentary in the US has been Lho Ontul Rinpoche on two consecutive tours. On bothe tours the empowerment text used was Drikung Lho Nuden Dorje's Rainbow Chod. On one tour the text he taught on was requested by a Karma Kagyu lama if I remember correctly and Lho Nuden Dorje consented and composed this practice. Often Lho Ontul Rinpoche has used this practice when performing Healing Chods. On another tour he taught on a Pure Vision Chod text which is part of Lho Nuden Dorje's Dechen Nyingpo cycle and is a ancillary practice. The actual Rainbow Body Chod practice text is a very unique and extensive Chod practice. We had that translated but it is not practical for most practitioners. I know of only one practitioner in the US that has truly received the instructions to do this practice though when Lho Thupten Nyingpo was here in the US in 2004 we filmed him doing this practice and slowly over time had a preliminary translation done of the practice. Lho Nuden Dorje also has a number of anciliary Chod practices such as smoke offerings, protector practices, a Chod Ngondro that are all quite interesting.

Could you elaborate on this Rainbow Body Chod some? I am not familiar with it. I have received wangs from Ontul Rinpoche but not a Chod one. What makes the Rainbow Body Chod so "elaborate"? Is it an extremely long lujin, or is there a tsok practice involved? How does it compare to the various practices of the Dudjom Throma cycle including the elaborate and medium length Throma tsoks?

i don't know if you were asking from me,

so i received teachings and did the practice together with Lama Sönam Jorphel Drubpon Rinpoche. the practice text was the kusali tsog, with the white offering written by Lord Jigten Sumgon and the red offering and so on i don't remember but it was from machik's lineage.

i did not receive the empowerment, we just did the practice and received teachings about the chöd.

Never rises in your mind,
You need not fear the demon hosts around you.
It is most important to tame your mind within....

In so far as the Ultimate, or the true nature of being is concerned,
there are neither buddhas or demons.
He who frees himself from fear and hope, evil and virtue,
will realize the insubstantial and groundless nature of confusion.
Samsara will then appear as the mahamudra itself….

Chöd was founded by Machig Labdrön (1050-1149), the Tibetan female saint who is considered the emanation of Troma Nagmo and received Chöd teachings from the Indian Mahamudra master and Chöd lineage master Padampa Sangye.

Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche is a Dzogchen master and the reincarnation of Dzogchen Gyaltsab Thodo Rinpoche. He was recognized by H.H. Dalai Lama's Nyingmapa teacher Kyabje Trulshig Rinpoche. He received teachings from twenty-five masters representing all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He also writes novels, poetry for mind training, provides Tibetan astrology readings, and can bestow empowerments. He is also a Chod master. Currently he is working on Dharma activities at Sakya Monastery in Seattle. He is now working on producing a documentary on His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Rinpoche’s life. Tulku Yeshe Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist master, poet and author. He has published ten books about philosophy, life, nature, peace and magic. He is the founder of Tibetan Zen, and he has given the Tibetan Zen teaching in many places. His book, “Tibetan Zen”, will be available in 2013. His autobiography, “A Modern Liberation Odyssey”, is available now.

Dharmaswede... Lodrö Rinpoche is based in Switzerland where he specialises in keeping the Ganden lineage of chö alive.

Traditionally the Dakini's Laughter does require empowerment, usually 'The Sky Opener' is the one given, but it could be Shije initiation instead. In practice some Lamas let you try it first and then after you know what you are getting into will give the initiation later.

Tulku Sang-gnag has said that there is no empowerment for Khandro Gyad-jang per se. In His case, He has given a Do Khyentse Sky-opening empowerment to students embarking on the practice of Khandro Gyad-jang.

You are right, there is no empowerment for the Khandro Gegyang, PER SE, but it does need an empowerment, as do all chod. Any chö empowerment will suffice... And then traditionally it needs the specific lung.

I think you might be misinterpreting Tulku Dakpa. All chö practices need an initiation. There is not usually a speofic chö initiation for each specific chö practice. What is usually given is the Sky Opener Chö Wang.... This can be from the kagyu lineage, from a Nyinmapa source or even from the Lineage of chö within the Gelugpa. Once you have that, from whichever source, you can can then practice Khandro Gegyang of the Longchen Nyingtig, Lujin of the Kagyus, or the Gyu Lus tsok su Ngo wa of the gelugpa lineage - provided you have been given the specific lung for that practice.

Some other chö practices require further or sometimes specific chö initiations and, of course, they require their own particular empowerments too.

I hope that make sense of what the various lamas have said.

There is no specific dwang for this practice. It only needs a lung.

I don't think there is anything to misunderstand and misinterpret, and just as Malcolm says there is no empowerment for this Chö practice. Some lamas might think you need an empowerment to do Chö but obviously not all.

FYI

Over 200 attended. About 20 Westerners. Old folks and babies. About 60 Nagpas/mas. Beautiful Gompa of Sherpa Association.

The Chod tradition is alive and well in Queens, NY, and Portland, OR. No mention of payment, with free lunch and copious tasty tsog.

Incredible display of the Open Heart of Dharma.

Best of best if you are a wang-goer: full Tibetan wang with all the bells and whistles, (kanglings and conch shells for the whistles) no pun intended), including several huge tsampa tormas - enough for all 200 to get a tasty slice.

Very impressed. (I don't impress easily.) Also impressed by the young Tibetans that were assisting. Felt at home. Everything was completely correct. Highly recommended as a genuine source of Dharma.

Thank yous to the sponsors and to Lama Tsering Wangdu.

Lama Tsering Wangdu is a Tibetan lineage holder, one of the old ones, living in the US, who will take you to realization if you follow his teachings.

Now how to find the explanations and practice.

May the Masters live long, in good health and with success in all things.
