You can day dream and have expectations but recognise these are your own minds future projections. You cant stop your mind doing this anyway, and the nature of our expectations tell us what we are feeling and what emotional states are active in us. So is useful in this way.

But when you recognise your minds projections for what they are you free yourself to be able to consider the whole range of possibilites in a situation and then can respond effectively.
