7 Ideas about the Dzogchen Nature

Post by kalden yungdrung »

Tashi delek, :)

There can be some misunderstandings about what Dzogchen could be.
H.E. Lopon Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche elucidates below these misunderstandings which are all based on thoughts.
Thoughts seem to be karmic based and stored in the Alaya.

Best wishes

7 IDEAS ABOUT THE DZOGCHEN NATURE:

Going back to the Nature itself now: I said before that some just look back to the thought, and when it disappears, they are satisfied and believe this is the Nature of Dzogchen. But it is not so easy to realise this Nature. In our text we find seven possible ideas about the Dzogchen Nature.

Like if seven different persons were looking at Dzogchen and came to seven different opinions about it. What we have to do is to think about and clearly understand this Nature, which is beyond consciousness and without any connection with it. This is the one and most important point.

Now all the many explanations of the Dzogchen view and the many ways how it can be misunderstood and how some pretend to know the Dzogchen view are condensed to 7 points here:

1. They think that the Dzogchen Nature is completely perfect, so perfection is the base of all.
2. They think that Dzogchen is not definite, so anything can be said to be Dzogchen. As the Dzogchen Nature is beyond consciousness, one can say anything about Dzogchen, as there is no certain Dzogchen view recognizable.
3. They think that the Dzogchen view is the base of all. They only think so - so thinking has been added.
4. They think that anything can be made into Dzogchen, good things, bad things, neutral things. One changes things to be Dzogchen.
5. They think that anything can be accepted, as the Dzogchen view is not certain and definite.
6. They think that any vision and anything the existence of which we are not certain about can be accepted as Dzogchen, as this basic Nature is the base of all.
7. They think that Dzogchen cannot be explained in any way, as there is only purity itself, kadag.

These are all ideas on Dzogchen. All these ideas are made by consciousness and thinking.

"What is the All? Simply the eye & forms, ear & sounds, nose & aromas, tongue & flavors, body & tactile sensations, intellect & ideas. This, monks, is called the All. Anyone who would say, 'Repudiating this All, I will describe another,' if questioned on what exactly might be the grounds for his statement, would be unable to explain, and furthermore, would be put to grief. Why? Because it lies beyond range." Sabba Sutta.
