Post by diamind »

༄།སེམས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་སྐད་གཅིག་མ་།

རང་རིགས་དོན་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་བླ་མ་ལ་།

འདུ་འབྲལ་མེད་པའི་ངང་ནས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་།

འཁྲུལ་སྣང་བཞི་ལ་དག་པར་བྱིན་རྒྱི་རླབས་།

My attempt....

༄།སེམས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་སྐད་གཅིག་མ་།
One instant of mind’s essence free of elaboration
རང་རིགས་དོན་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་བླ་མ་ལ་།
The essence of understanding one’s knowledge (rigpa) is the lama.
འདུ་འབྲལ་མེད་པའི་ངང་ནས་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་།
From within that state without meeting or separation, supplicate.
འཁྲུལ་སྣང་བཞི་ལ་དག་པར་བྱིན་རྒྱི་རླབས་།
By this pure blessing, confused appearances are pacified.

My Tibetan grammar is not the best, but I think this captures the meaning. Malcolm may be able to clarify further.
དམ་པའི་དོན་ནི་ཤེས་རབ་ཆེ་བ་དང་།
རྟོག་གེའི་ཡུལ་མིན་བླ་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་།
སྐལ་ལྡན་ལས་འཕྲོ་ཅན་གྱིས་རྟོགས་པ་སྟེ།
དེ་ནི་ཤེས་རབ་ལ་ནི་ལོ་རྟོག་སེལ།།

"Absolute Truth is not an object of analytical discourse or great discriminating wisdom,
It is realized through the blessing grace of the Guru and fortunate Karmic potential.
Like this, mistaken ideas of discriminating wisdom are clarified."

Not quite. Perhaps it will probably make more sense if I just rearrange the order of what you wrote and add some grammar.

From within the state that is without meeting or parting, I supplicate
(To) the teacher that is ultimately the essence of one's own knowledge
of a single instant of the unelaborated nature of mind.
Grant your blessings so that confused appearances may be purified within the base.

So it could use a lot of work to clarify the intent of those first two line of Tibetan, but you should get a better idea of what it is saying.

Brilliant!! thanks guys. So why did you have to switch the lines around for the correct meaning? For instance if I'm chanting and following the direct English translation underneath the Tibetan, are you saying it's not really going to give the correct feeling or translation?
Does the four lines even make sense in Tibetan? It was actually written personally for me by one unusual Lama. Then he said take it to a high lama for explaining.

And just one final thing if you don't mind.
The last line I couldn't find the words in the dictionary.
What is the break up of words?

1.འཁྲུལ་སྣང་ 2.བཞི་ལ་ 3. དག་པར་ 4. བྱིན་རྒྱི་རླབས་།

1. Illusion,hallucination 2. Four 3.? 4. Blessings

You don't need to switch the lines around it's just easier to understand in English. Tibetan has almost the opposite syntax in terms of word order when compared to English, so unless you want to sound like Yoda it's sometimes useful to just flip the sentence. And with verses this may mean rearranging the various components, though again it's only a matter of syntax, and I was actually just trying to correct Cone's "attempt." So I wasn't referring to the op, as there is no problem with the way it is written in Tibetan (other than some spelling mistakes) and you can easily render it in the same order in English as long as you understand the grammar.

As for the last line, I think the bzhi is a misspelling of gzhi and third word is dag pa, pure.

Otherwise, I recommend you follow the advice of lama who gave you this verse and ask for clarification from somebody qualified to do so.

Ah, yes---agree that it's gzhi---as "base." Not even sure why I thought "pacify" ---oops.

Also, the la at the end of the second line signifies that is who one supplicates--the "Lama who is the ultimately the essence of one's Rigpa.
Yeshegyaltsen's last line is perfect--I did not account for the "verb." LOL. Thanks for clarifying the grammar--

If you wanted to keep it in roughly the same order as the original, you could say:

One instant of mind's essence free of elaboration-
The ultimate essence of one's knowledge of (this is) the lama, to whom,
from within the state which is without meeting or parting, I supplicate.
Grant your blessings so that confused appearances are purified in the base.

It's a bit awkward.....
དམ་པའི་དོན་ནི་ཤེས་རབ་ཆེ་བ་དང་།
རྟོག་གེའི་ཡུལ་མིན་བླ་མའི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་།
སྐལ་ལྡན་ལས་འཕྲོ་ཅན་གྱིས་རྟོགས་པ་སྟེ།
དེ་ནི་ཤེས་རབ་ལ་ནི་ལོ་རྟོག་སེལ།།
