Kopan Downunder is an annual tradition at Chenrezig Institute. It is a lam-rim retreat led by Geshe Losang Jamyang - a Tibetan teacher renowned for his warmth, clarity, and the humour with which he makes complex subjects accessible to Western Students.

The lam-rim – a logical, graduated review of all the Buddha’s teachings composed by Lama Tsong Khapa - is the core of the teachings in the Gelugpa tradition and provides an excellent foundation in Tibetan Buddhism. The retreat is open to everyone and will be beneficial to students of any level. Provision is made in the schedule for inexperienced participants, with special tutorials and support in discussion groups. More experienced students have a wonderful opportunity to continue to study and meditate on the lam-rim, and deepen their understanding of the Buddha's teachings.

The retreat includes units of study, practice, and service. Thus, the schedule includes teachings, tutorials, discussion groups, meditations, practice, and ‘karma yoga’ (service). Through this, students will learn to apply these classic teachings to modern life and discover a greater sense of peace, meaning, and contentment.
