Hi. I have been meditating for over 6 months, mostly breath meditation and metta. Latley i have been intersted in the tibetan way of meditation and i was wondering if there is some kind of path to follow in terms of wich meditations techniques should i use and how long to use them. For example iv heard that is useful to meditate on death for a while at the begining years.
I was hoping that someone with some experiencie can guide me a little bit.
Greetings, sry about my english.

Welcome TaTa,
The first thing I would do, Is try to find a real Tibetan Lama (teacher). If you are interested in Tibetan Buddhism, a teacher is required.

Breath meditation and Metta are both present in Tibetan meditation. The main practice seems to be Shamatha though.
Equanimity is the ground. Love is the moisture. Compassion is the seed. Bodhicitta is the result.

Without attachment, self-liberating, like a snake in a knot.
Through the qualities of meditating in that way,
Mental obscurations are purified and the dharmakaya is attained."

Stick with Metta and Sati meditation until you find yourself a teacher in the tradition you feel the most affinity for. These two techniques are the basis for more complex practices (in all traditions) that you may wish to practice in the future. Without a solid basis...TaTa wrote:Hi. I would not meditate on death without the guidance of a teacher because it is easy to fall into morbid morseness and nihilism (like Gothic types).

Thanks a lot, that makes sense. Maybe in the near future ill try to add some compassion or equanimity also. Im currently trying to find a buddhist center that fits me and a teacher. There are some tibetan centers here in buenos aires luckly. Still i got tempted to see what will come next. This is a very exiting path, and if the results in such short term (6months) are great i cant imagine what the benefits will be in middle and long term with a proper teacher.
Thanks for the advice
