Single-Mindedly, we seek Refuge in Amitabha Buddha of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss,
May His Pure Radiance shine upon us and His Vows embrace us,
Mindfully, invoking the Tathagata’s Name, mindful of the Bodhi Way, seeking rebirth in Sukhavati,
As the Buddha fundamentally vowed, “If any sentient being, seeking rebirth in His Land, with determined and faithful Tenfold Invocations, should one not achieve rebirth there, He will not attain Supreme Enlightenment”,
By this virtuous Mindfulness of Buddha, may we enter the Tathagata’s Great Ocean of Vows,
By the Buddha’s Great Compassion, may all offenses be eradicated and good roots increased,
By the end of one’s life, may we have foreknowledge,
Devoid of suffering, craving or confusion, Dhyana’s serenity permeates,
The Buddha and the Holy Sages, from the Golden Dias, beholding us,
In one ksana, we are in His Blissful Land,
The Lotus unfolding, beholding the Buddha,
Hearing the Buddha Vehicle, Attaining the Buddha’s Prajna,
Delivering all sentient beings, fulfilling the Bodhi Vows!
O Buddhas of the Tenfold Directions and Three Periods of Time!
O Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas!
Maha Prajna Paramita!

In Tenfold Directions & Three Periods of Time, foremost Buddha of All, is Amitabha,
Emancipating all of Nine Ranks, with limitless Merits and Virtues,
We now seek Refuge and repent from all offenses,
Sincerely, we transfer these Merits and Virtues, with like-minded Reciters,
May all experience His Miraculous Wonders,
When meeting our end, may the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss unfold now,
With diligent efforts, beholding Amitabha, the cyclic rebirth ends,
We shall then deliver all sentient beings,
Endless sufferings eliminated, Limitless Dharmas learned,
Vowing to free all beings, may they too attain Buddhahood,
Though empty space has boundaries, our Vows are endless.
O Buddhas of the Tenfold Directions and Three Periods of Time!
O Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas!
Maha Prajna Paramita!

Of incomparable radiant hallmarks,
His effulgent Urna, luminous in hundred worlds,
His oceanwide Eyes, unsullied and lucid,

OPENING THE DOOR OF THE PURE LAND BY LAMA TSONGKHAPA (PRAISE TO AMITABHA)

NAMO SHRI-GURU-MANJUGHOSAYA!

Ruler of Sukhavati Pure Land, praised by all the Sugatas - Bhagavan Lord Amitayus,
Teacher of gods and humans, king of Conquerors - You grant long life to beings.
As the cloud-free moon is reflected in clear water in all infinite kinds of vessel,
so to countless fortunate beings at once,
in many aspects You display your body.

In the same instant You cut every net of doubt besetting infinite disciples
and open the eye of wisdom to reality with your speech, unceasingly proclaimed.
Spreading pervasive knowledge to all knowables,
ruled by compassion for beings of the five streams,
its' power of wisdom and love saves from fears of samsara and peace,
as your mind is unstirred by signs or effort.

With your body, a heap of splendour that fills with endless masses of light all countless lands,
as the sun's rays do the heaven's vault, provide a banquet for my fortunate eyes.
With your brahmic voice, of five members,
just to hear which grants the highest bliss,
like sweet thunder to the peacocks' heart,
sprinkle drops of nectar in my ears.

With supreme calm mind,
all fancy stilled by putting your awareness in emptiness,
like a still cloud-mass in the sky's expanse,
quell all mental focus (on) imagining.

Even if all Conquerors described for countless eons your (great) mass of virtues,
to find the end would be no easy task;
just so, they are more than I can tell.
Therefore, there's no other teacher like You,
an inexhaustible store of qualities from whom all seeds of faults have gone forever.
You alone, then, are migrators' refuge.

Through your thousand million vows, Protector,
You founded well the best of Supreme Lands where even the name of suffering is not found,
hence called the Pure Land, Sukhavati.

There, as soon as the light of this life fades,
let me be born in a thousand-petalled lotus,
rise from within the lotus without hindrance,
behold your form, and drink my fill of your speech.
When, Lord, I've heard your Mahayanic speech,
just as Avalokita behaves to free those sinking in samsara's mire,
and Mahasthamaprapta, let me too.

hey Mrs Dolma or Mr futurist, could you cut and paste the Vasubandhu's verses and Shinran's Shonshinge posts i made into this thread? thankye kindly :smile:
In the meantime, some verses from Shinran's Hymns -
Amida has passed through ten kalpas now
Since realizing Buddhahood;
Dharma-body's wheel of light is without bound,
Shining on the blind and ignorant of the world.

The light of wisdom exceeds all measure,
And every finite living being
Receives this illumination that is like the dawn,
So take refuge in Amida, the true and real light.

The liberating wheel of light is without bound;
Each person it touches, it is taught,
Is freed from attachments to being and nonbeing,
So take refuge in Amida, the enlightenment of nondiscrimination.

The cloud of light is unhindered, like open sky;
There is nothing that impedes it.
Every being is nurtured by this light,
So take refuge in Amida, the one beyond conception.

The light of purity is without compare.
When a person encounters this light,
All bonds of karma fall away;
So take refuge in Amida, the ultimate shelter.

The Buddha's light is supreme in radiance;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha, Lord of Blazing Light."
It dispels the darkness of the three courses of affliction,
So take refuge in Amida, the great one worthy of offerings.

The radiance of enlightenment, in its brilliance, transcends all limits;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha of the Light of Purity."
Once illuminated by this light,
We are freed of karmic defilements and attain emancipation.

The light of compassion illumines us from afar;
Those beings it reaches, it is taught,
Attain the joy of dharma,
So take refuge in Amida, the great consolation.

The light dispels the darkness of ignorance;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha of the Light of Wisdom."
All the Buddhas and sages of the three vehicles
Together offer their praise.

The light shines everywhere ceaselessly;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha of Uninterrupted Light."
Because beings hear [and apprehend] this power of light,
Their mindfulness is enduring and they attain birth.

The Buddha's light cannot be fathomed;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha of Inconceivable Light."
All the Buddhas, in acclaiming a person's attainment of birth,
Extol Amida's virtues.

The majestic light, transcending form, is beyond description;
Thus Amida is called "Buddha of Inexpressible Light."
All the Buddhas praise this light -
The cause by which Amida's Buddhahood was fulfilled.

The light is more luminous than the heavenly bodies;
Thus Amida is called "Light that Surpasses the Sun and the Moon."
Even Sakyamuni's praise cannot exhaust its virtues,
So take refuge in the one without equal.

When Amida, on becoming a Buddha, first taught the dharma,
The sages present were numerous beyond reckoning;
All who aspire to be born in the Pure Land,
Take refuge in Amida, of the vast assembly.
Image
Although I too am within Amida's grasp,
Passions obstruct my eyes and I cannot see him;
Nevertheless, great compassion is untiring and
illumines me always.
- Shinran

Sariputra, as I now glorify the inconceivable merits of all those Buddhas, so also they praise mine by saying:"Sakyamuni Buddha has performed a difficult task, a unique undertaking. In spite of the five kinds of defilement of this evil world: the defilement of the present age, the defilement of erroneous views, the defilement of passions, the defilement of various things, the defilement of destiny (karma), he is yet able to attain Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi in this Saha World, and for all beings preaches this Law ( of the Pure Land), which the people of all worlds are inclined to doubt, and which it is difficult to convince them to accept."
svaha
"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
Sarvē mānavāḥ svatantrāḥ samutpannāḥ vartantē api ca, gauravadr̥śā adhikāradr̥śā ca samānāḥ ēva vartantē. Ētē sarvē cētanā-tarka-śaktibhyāṁ susampannāḥ santi. Api ca, sarvē’pi bandhutva-bhāvanayā parasparaṁ vyavaharantu."
