Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche -- Zoroaster?

Post by deepbluehum »

So what do you think? Linguists are now putting Zoroaster at the 18th-11th BCE, or sometimes 2500-2000 BCE. Also they are moving him from Iran to Afghanistan. With is teachings on dark and light, etc., could this be Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche?

Tashi delek,

Bon does not have nothing in common with the doctrine of Zoroaster.
This doctrine is said to have spread mainly in India.

All in all, i must deny that Buddha Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche has a relationship with the Persian Zoroaster philosophy.... :) Last mentioned philosophy does not have Dzogchen, which is the core in the Bon Tradition.

The spread to India is a modern deal. Zoroastrianism is an 18k yr old Persian deal. Zarathustra was really from Western Afghanistan.

Also there is an exoteric and esoteric Zoroastrianism. This is the only other account of a historical figure to have lived 18k years ago. From the same place and time. There was no other religious movement at that period. Just think. Ahura Mazda means Wisdom Light.

There are so many similarities with the story of Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche. It's very interesting.

Tashi delek,

Thanks for your post.

Yes there must be in every religion and philosophy similarities but that does not mean they are similar.
One great similarity between many religions is the factor or mentality Compassion.
Here do all agree, exept the Hedonists, non believers, nihilists etc., that one is only a human if we have compassion towards other sentient beings, Cosmological seen as a Buddhist of course.........

But that does not mean Christianity is = Bon.

I agree about all these similarities we can encounter worlwide between people and people who in turn are grouped in Religions etc. It shows similarities anyway because our mind is based on similarities , like emptiness :applause:

It are all colours but not the same....... ;)

Can you really give sources that say reputable linguists are putting Zoroaster back that far?

It does seem that he was from an area east of Iran proper, though.

There has been a LOT of good research on Bon in the last twenty years, by scholars inside the tradition and out. You might want to check some of it out; you can find some on the web if you look.

No one believes any more that Shenrab and Zoroaster can be equated.
