So, the outer practice, which is what most of us know, is the 4 mandala offering to the 21 Taras, popular in most Kagyu centers, and I believe some Nyingma centers too.

The inner practice relates to the 8 Taras who protect from the 8 fears, and these relate to Inner Afflictions, as well..and they are visualized internally, rather than externally.

The secret practice, If I recall, relates to Tara and Hayagriva, Yabyum.
In the Chokling's Zabtik Drolma it is said that the outer level is kriya yoga, the inner is yoga tantra and the secret is annutaratantra. The last is quite strange for a terma cycle but the description of the practices involved in the secret cycle seem to cover more or less cover mahayoga, anuyoga and atiyoga but it is still said to be annutaratantra.

There may be some correspondence between these classifications and the four types of activity. If you look at the lamas and dakinis in Dudjom Tersar, for example, they seem to mostly correspond.
I actually think maybe it has more to do with a correspondence to the 4 kayas.

From Facebook today:
March 15, 2013 – Nyingma Kama Empowerments to be bestowed by Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche

Orgyen Dorje Den invites you to join us for another historic event with Ven. Yangthang Tulku Rinpoche. At the request of Ven. Gyatrul Rinpoche, starting on March 15th, 2013, Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche will bestow the transmissions from the Nyingma Kama.

The Nyingma Kama, translated as the "Oral Transmission of the Nyingma", in parallel with the terma tradition, is one of two unique streams of teachings in the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The Nyingma Kama includes Indian root texts and commentaries as well as Tibetan commentaries and instructions based on the Indian tradition. The Kama was brought to Tibet by Guru Rinpoche and other great vajramasters during the early translation period, and passed down in an unbroken stream of blessings from teacher to student to the present day.

Please note, it is also possible that Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche will bestow all or some of the empowerments from Terchen Dorje Dechen Lingpa. We will keep you all informed via email as the details of his schedule and the programs offered become known to us.

Where: Orgyen Dorje Den
2244 Santa Clara Ave.
Alameda, CA 94501

When: beginning March 15th, 2013. At this point we are planning that the Kama Wangs will last 3 weeks; as we get more details from Yangthang Rinpoche we will send updates via email and facebook announcements.

The wangs will begin at 12:30pm each day. Stay tuned for further information regarding registration.

Requested Donation: $1000. for the entire program
We encourage everyone to attend the entire Wangchen, but it is acceptable to attend on a daily basis according to your schedule. In a future announcement we will provide daily pricing and if possible a daily schedule of the empowerments.

About Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche:

Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche is an emanation of the great Vimalamitra and the immediate incarnation of the Terton Dorje Dechen Lingpa. Rinpoche is a main lineage holder of the Palyul Tradition and one of the most highly respected masters in the world today. Gyatrul Rinpoche has said that "Yangthang Rinpoche is truly a precious jewel" and encourages all of us to "make connection with this sublime master."

Say hi if you are going. I'm wearing a purple t-shirt with a mandala like pattern on it today.
