The fragrant/incense praises

Post by Alix1112 »

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but the Chinese "xiang zhan" or "fragrant/incense praise" that usually begins a chanting ceremony - does anyone have any in depth background information about it's origins/meaning? and why is it usually recited at the beginning of each ceremony?

In the last five hundred year period,
I will appear in the form of scriptures.
Consider them as identical to me,
And treat them with due respect.
