Greetings to All from Texas

Post by annazen43 »

Hello to Everyone!

My real name is Karen (annazen43), and I live in a part of Texas with no known outlet for anything Buddhist closer than a 31/2 hour drive, so I am here to gain some insight from those who practice. My knowledge is just that--knowledge, with limited direct experience, and though I plan to make the trek to the nearest center for some formal training, I thought joining this online group might be inspirational. Currently after tweny-five years of circling the Dharma--an insight that lead to slowly building a practice. Up to this point, when I get stuck, I return to the written Dharma. Yet, there are so many holes in my understanding. So, I will read through some of the topics on this site, and ask questions. I appreciate this forum, and look forward to the experience.

Dear Karen,

I live in Texas too...Oh yes, very far from Thai temples...2 hours from Wat Buddhavas...2 and a half hour from Wat Pa Srithavorn etc...both wats are in Houston.

I think you'll love Dharma Wheel ..like I do

Hi Karen,

Welcome to DW!

I lived for some time in rural Nevada, and after that, in rural Idaho. Here's what worked for me; it might work for you, too:

*Make a connection with a temple & teacher someplace where you can commute every month or six weeks to check in, attend big events, that sort of thing.

*Practice as best you can at home. When you have questions, call or email your teacher if possible. If not possible, load up your spacecraft and head to town...

*Repeat at regular intervals.

Your study & firm resolve to practice will carry you through.
