Distance Learning

Post by Thomas Amundsen »

There is already a thread about "Buddhist Universities/Buddhist Studies" but how about places that offer distance learning? I've come across some things on the web, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Namdrol's Abhidharma class at Rime Shedrub Ling was nice, and he's continuing with other texts. But it's quite limited to only a couple classes a year. Then there is http://www.shedra.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but the online classes there aren't as technical as what I'm looking for.

Does anyone have recommendations for online dharma learning? Preferably Tibetan-oriented, but you can post others for the interest of all.

Thanks!

I think that FPMT's Basic program might meet the level your are looking for.

This looks really awesome justsit. Just wondering though if the material used has a Kagyu slant to it though. I was referring to these self-paced courses:

Yes...more classes please! There should be quarter semesters!

The required and recommended texts seem to have Kagyu origins, not sure how the class material is presented.
Anything taught by Karl is worth your time and $ - he is clear, concise, approachable, and his knowledge is vast. I haven't had personal experience with Acharya Lama T., but am confident if he is teaching at Nitartha he is fully qualified.
You could probably email Nitartha for more details on those classes.

I am taking the course "Discovering Buddhism" from FPMT but the book/dvd/cd version.
The internet hookup out here is way to slow to do an online class (a 2 min youtube vid takes 45+ min to load lol).
But the material is not hard to understand, and I've always got my friends here to help me if I don't understand a topic or subject

Kindest wishes, Dave
Everyday problems teach us to have a realistic attitude.
They teach us that life is what life is; flawed.
Yet with tremendous potential for joy and fulfillment.
