Re: Guanyin's method

Hi, I was reading the chapter on the Shurangama Sutra that describes the method he used to attain enlightenment: turning his faculty of hearing inward and emptying his awareness. Is there a commentary on this chapter that provides more detail on how this is done? I’ve practiced it, it’s known as th...

Re: Guanyin's method

Ajahn Amaro who is Theravada practices it and calls it listening to the Nada Sound. It’s also found in Sufism. Thanks. References or sources for these? Sit quietly and wait for a gentle ringing sound to manifest in your ears gently focus your attention on it. Don’t be forceful just a gentle relaxed...

Re: Concentration born of natural luminosity

I remember this phrase - "Concentration born of natural luminosity", but I don't remember where I read it or what it is referring to. Does anyone knows what it is and how it cultivate? You’d need a Mahamudra Empowerment keep Samayas, HYT, Bodhisattva and Refuge Vows some all of the 5 Precepts. Then...

Re: Ability to Control the Weather

1. Being born into a ngakpa family with certain powers definitely helps. One of my Root Gurus, Lama Dawa Chodrak was born into a family that traced it's ngakpa lineage back to the time of Milarepa. I don't think that happens without a huge accumulation of merit. As a for instance of some sort of fa...

Re: Ability to Control the Weather

well, fierce action requieres fierce yidam. or use of a special method like the vajra armor. the capability is that of giving a command and being obeyed. Bodhicitta being most important I reckon one cannot perform any karmic action without perfect ethic, perfect boddhicita. Thank you :namaste:

it is not a transmission, is a capability. you must develop it. Yeah, but there are practices to develop the capability. well, fierce action requieres fierce yidam. or use of a special method like the vajra armor. the capability is that of giving a command and being obeyed. I would say that a huge majority of us here are incapable of controlling our bowel actions, when nature calls, and we want to control the weather?

Now that is deluded.

Re: tibet dieteis are real or story

I called out to Tara in a nightmare and a very tall lady appeared who had a big smile on her face; she radiated compassion and joy. She said "you call me, I come" very playfully. I have no doubt that it was Tara. She came with a big group of Buddhist monks who taught me about the importance of tend...

Re: Pure Land mysticism

If you want to establish Other-Power Faith you need a living teacher who has it. Is there an agreement among purelanders that this is true ? Who teaches this ? Where I trained that’s how it was explicitly stated. May be viewed differently elsewhere. May be cases where Faith has spontaneously arisen...

Re: Hope for attainment in this life.what are my options?

Tsonkyi Rinpoche talks about a lot of westerners have problems sourced in the subtle body. Phowa might be a good practice the Drikung one is very famous. Keep an eye out for it. Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse and Chögyal Namkhai Norbu have both said that Guruyoga is the best Powa. I think for most people (p...

Re: Hope for attainment in this life.what are my options?

I hold Dzogchen as the highest yana and I believe mahamudra is just as good.I would describe myself as rime, even being accepting of the Bon religion.but my practice is entirely Nianfo practice.I want to change that.I have trouble meditating and visualizing because of Brain fog and OCD racing negati...

Re: Amitofo or amituofo?

The third syllable in 阿弥陀佛 is 陀 which is pronounced tuó But either way of saying it as part of 阿弥陀佛 is fine. It’s a Chinese pronunciation of “Amitabha” In the Chinese translation, “bha” is replaced by “fo” 佛 meaning “Buddha” So, the name “Amitabha” is shortened to “amita” and the Chinese translatio...
